The Berlin left is obsessed with expropriating private housing to make it public and the only arguments they can supply are memes because it's stupid on every level. 1. It's illegal 2. Would only reduce the rent of those living in the newly public housing 3. Would destroy private home building

This is a poor take that suggests Owen Jones doesn't know much about Russia in the 1990s, including Russia-US or wider Russia-West relations in the 1990s. By giving only one part of the story, he is repeating the Russian political elite's self-serving line that it was all the West's fault. Long 🧵

I do worry that a lot (not all, a lot) of the left somehow lost the ability to talk about the non-macro policy benefits of public spending at some point in the 2010s. The case for the NHS doing more knee replacements or paying teachers more isn’t that it is part of an expansionary fiscal policy.

A rude cyclist cutting you off is essentially playing a game of chicken. A 20 km/h collision won't end much better for the cyclist if the target is a pedestrian rather than a tree. It's a completely different dynamic to a car driver, who isn't taking any physical risk in such an interaction.

If it's actually happening, I expect the death of middle management to be short-lived. AI-assisted or not, it's not a good idea to give a single manager 15 direct reports. The manager becomes the bottleneck and the risk is employees taking poorly coordinated decisions.

Initial plugin text
