Ah yes the eminently qualified 35 year old ’Palmer Luckey’ (W/zero military or other relevant experience) has been tapped to determine the US military’s future. Luckey is Matt Gaetz’s brother-in-law. The stupidity of our current timeline continues.

About the worst possible environment for a data center company to go public in. Only reason you do this is exit liquidity for investors
Nscale is seeking to raise up to $3 billion in an initial public offering as soon as this month, just as investors are growing increasingly wary of the risks of this Al buildout. Another prominent neocloud, CoreWeave Inc., saw its shares tumble 15% on Wednesday and the cost of protecting its debt against default soar to a record on Thursday, with swaps pricing in a more than 60% chance of default within the next five years. Last week, an Australian data center firm abandoned plans for its IPO after would-be investors turned skittish. Nscale will need to persuade investors that it has a more promising business model and reassure them of its ability to deliver data centers smoothly, despite challenges in places like Glomfjord.

Slavery was and is a real thing that has brutalized hundreds of millions of people over the course of human history, if someone tells me a fucking chatbot is enslaved I'm immediately throwing hands. It's not cute, it's not intriguing, it's an insult to real people who suffered and suffer now.

There's a Politico (lol) piece entirely about how Republicans' hope right now is that the polls are all way off and they only get a MILD wipeout and first of all it's full of a bunch of nonsense but the best part is how it ends on this incredible bit:
"The strategist also noted that the polling right now reflects a change in the electorate as profound as those seen after Watergate and 9/11.

“It would be so historically unprecedented you’d have to presuppose we’re staring down the barrel of a generational national trauma that no one is aware of,” the strategist said."

Also I’m not gonna let the linguistic point go: the BBC, the courts, and now the NHS all refer to trans people using slurs as a matter of official policy. That’s where Britain is at now.

The NHS is already one of the biggest perpetrators of anti-trans violence in the UK. This new guidance, which refers to trans people using slurs, demands that we be segregated and abused. I’ve said it before: senior NHS managers must be sacked and punished for what they’ve done to us.

Gartner says that by 2030, 80% of neoclouds will have ceased operations, that AI data center owners would need to generate $8.5 trillion in revenue to cover the current spend and hit an ROIC of 12%, and that $4tr+ in assets face writedown risk by 2032. www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/...
By 2030, 80% of Neocloud Providers Are Expected to Cease Independent Operations
More than $3.5 trillion of AI infrastructure spending could be exposed to impairment by the end of 2030, if AI providers continue their current pace of capital spending, according to Gartner, Inc., a business and technology insights company.

“In 2026, AI providers are expected to spend nearly $1 trillion on AI infrastructure, and are forecast to invest an additional $6 trillion between 2027 and 2030,” said Will Sommer, Sr Director Analyst at Gartner. “However, our research indicates that enterprise and consumer AI revenue will be insufficient to support profitable returns on all planned AI capital expenditures during this period.”

“Through 2030, AI data center owners would need to generate a cumulative $8.5 trillion in revenue to cover announced capital spending, financing costs, and a 12% return on invested capital (ROIC), which we assume to be the hurdle rate of investment capital,” said Sommer. “However, total enterprise and consumer AI revenue that can be attributed to AI data centers during this period is forecast to reach no more than $3.6 trillion. Because most AI-native providers operate asset-light business models, we predict that less than half of AI revenue will be earned by providers that own significant AI infrastructure.”

Failure to achieve sustainable ROIC on rapidly depreciating assets would almost certainly necessitate write-downs. Based on Gartner projections, a continued AI infrastructure investment trajectory could leave more than $4 trillion in asset value exposed to write-down risk through 2032. In this scenario, Gartner does not expect the 12% ROIC to be achieved until the end of 2032 at earliest.
