The best part about getting older is seeing Disney movies that failed when I was a kid finally become popular enough to warrant merchandise. I saw Atlantis and Treasure Planet at 3 and 4 respectively and have held them both dearly ever since. I'm glad their reputations have improved.

One of my first online fandoms was on forums and yahoogroups in 2000 and that was also the year I learned what doxxing was. One of my friends was nearly pushed out of a job because a jealous person from fandom doxxed them. There have *always* been dickbiscuits around but they didn't get amplified.

My hot take is that fandoms have always been a majority of nice people with a subset of absolutely rancid, judgemental arseholes that never got bigger, just louder, but because platforms learned that arguments drive engagement and therefore you see more ads, they tailored algorithms towards that

Looking back, I think my relationship with films, books, TV and music improved as my relationship with neurodivergence improved, especially possibly having AuDHD. It meant living in the real world, and having less time for them as I get older, but it means I cherish them all the more.
