In Joyce’s Ulysses, Leopold Bloom buys a bar of lemon soap from Sweny’s Chemist. A small episode in an enormous novel, not enough perhaps to stake a substantial claim for this chemist as a Dublin landmark. Modern-day Sweny’s could so easily be an attempt to cash in on this tenuous association -
A photo of the frontage of Sweny’s Chemist in Dublin. Two arched glass windows, a matching arched glazed door way, and the letters SWENY spelled out in gold letters above the door.

I mean, it’s not even that “landmark”, it’s in-line with all previous research. Same as before: Sports’ governing bodies should set policies based on good science and a spirit of inclusion, not the opinions of lunatics who only care about sport as a wedge issue to bully trans people out of society

Labour is now undeniably, and deliberately, stoking division, hate and racial tensions. Absolutely any attacks can be laid at this government's door at this point. They have decided to incite the far right instead of combatting it, and there is no defence for that in any realm of reality.

A photo of a wooden desk with two black-and-white prints lying on it. One print shows a man with his arm extended, mid-performance on stage. The other print shows a young man in sunglasses standing in front of a barbershop with signs reading "COMO GENTS HAIR". Nearby are a white Apple keyboard, a white Apple Magic Mouse, a hard drive, and some medication sachets. The desk surface has light scuff marks and scratches.

I've never been to The Ivy. I will never go to The Ivy. It seems they've written to all suppliers to say they'll be applying a mandatory discount of 2.5% to all invoices they receive due "increased cost of trading". Yet another reason not to give this UK chain support. So many better alternatives.

If you need to discipline your child by beating them, a smaller, weaker human who has grown up with *you* setting an example for their behaviour, who has relied on you for every aspect of their life, then you are a complete and utter failure as a father and a shit metaphor for leadership.

Two things that are simultaneously true: - Antisemitism is a real, and growing problem in Ireland, something which a distressing number of people are in complete denial about - Only either a total moron or a shameless charlatan would claim that Ireland is the "most antisemitic country in Europe"
