Buried the lede. All Tesla Cybercabs have driving controls. Most or many have the worst kind ever. [Austin] "fire Capt. Matthew McElearney said that Tesla has provided training to the city’s firefighters and other first responders about how to move the Cybercab using a touchscreen on its dashboard"

This is framed as a feel-good story, but it should scare the wits out of anybody on the road. Tesla's deceptive marketing is convincing seniors that the cars drive themselves. In reality, a human must always be ready to intervene. If someone lacks the ability to do that, they shouldn't be driving!

Forget rideshare. How seniors are using Teslas for transportation
As Waymo and Tesla robotaxi services promise more rides for more cities, seniors are taking matters into their own hands and self-driving Teslas.

The safety analysis in the Waymo / taxi / Uber-Lyft comparison report has been removed. Appears to be related to the serious injury / death crashes, which was the only data that made Waymo look bad. static1.squarespace.com/static/5e713...
"As of July 23, 2026, we have temporarily removed our safety analysis
from this report, as well as relevant references to the analysis
throughout the report (denoted in-text by a reference to this section).
We were made aware of data discrepancies between City agency
data for New York City for-hire vehicle crashes with serious injuries
or deaths, as well as City agency data definitions related to such
crashes. We are working to resolve these discrepancies and ensure
our findings properly represent the data and the driving records of
New York City for-hire vehicle drivers and Waymo vehicles. Other
than this section, the remainder of our report remains unchanged."

Poon isn't even correct that AI is as good as the information you use to train it. You can feed an LLM millions of verifiably true statements as training data, and still get untrue statements out. AI has no concept of truth, because it has no concepts at all, only probabilities.

Heads up, the "big drop in crashes for Waymo" from spring to summer in 2025 was mostly if not entirely bc NHTSA reduced their crash reporting requirements that June, prob under pressure from DOGE/Musk who had already cut NHTSA's Office of Automation Safety staff by nearly 50% in February 2025.
