Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination. She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth. Because he’s a goddamned coward.

Outgoing Sen. Tillis regrets pivotal vote for Hegseth: ‘He’s an actor. He’s not a manager’
Outgoing Sen. Thom Tillis spoke to MS NOW about regretting his vote to confirm Pete Hegseth and his strained relationship with Trump.

but either way, you ideally want your future voting coalition to include more people than it did in an election *which you lost* so y'know. gonna have to get some people who went the wrong way onside.

i don't think Tom Morello should have tried to get people to vote third party in 2024. i think that was a mistake. i don't know if he thinks that was a mistake or what. this is one of the many ways in which, while there are lots of ways I can make common cause with Morello, our politics differ

Web devs learned 15 years ago that there is no such thing as anonymized data. Now the AI bros gonna relearn that about training data. Or more properly, go to absurd lengths to avoid learning it

A customer just tried to use an employee discount code that ChatGPT gave her. I work at a high-end clothing store and clocked in to my manager telling me about the most unhinged interaction from yesterday. A woman walked in asking if she could use a 40% off code she got online. We don't have any sales running, so my manager looks at the screen and realizes ChatGPT straight up handed this woman a real employee's internal ID number.

If you go up to the box office and say "one adult for the movie where the whale eats a guy, please" they have to give it to you. There's no law that says you have to say Whalefall or whatever it's called.

good review and also, there is still something to be written about Sarah Palin as a key figure in creating the political space that trump seized just a few years later.

I stand by what I wrote early this year: Trump and Co. will definitely try to steal the midterms. And they will fail, because it's too big. Trying to buy votes wasn't part of their scheme then. But you should see it as a sign of desperation — that they know their other malfeasance won't be enough.

A hallmark of democratic backsliding is government leaders stealing from taxpayers and using public funds to try to get themselves electoral advantages. Backsliding countries keep the form of elections, but corrupt leaders render them no longer free and fair by putting a state thumb on the scale.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: on the set of the Jerry Springer show, a man sits in a chair. Jerry signals off-stage and says, “we have with us: your ancestor who crawled out of the ocean 375 million years ago!” Panel 2: the live studio audience is booing. Panel 3: security attempts to break up a fight between the man on stage, and his ancestor, a tiktaalik.

Aside from the obvious unfairness of people getting rich off of uncompensated stealing of creative works, we should think really hard about what it means that the people who keep winning economic jackboxes to become oligarch-rich are the ones who are willing to cheat and break the law

The answer of course is that the President isn't supposed to do either of these things, he is supposed to implement and enforce the laws passed by Congress, which is expected to have some institutional longevity

I‘ve been wrong about a lot of stuff. I treated the 2016 election like one big joke. I still struggle with internalized transmisogyny even after I gave up on denial and transitioned. I get it. Sometimes you’re wrong and it sucks and hurts like hell. But like… the people who were impacted count too.

I think the problem is that for whatever reason, society/the media/whoever have correctly determined we need a way to reintegrate millions of people into society and from that incorrectly determined the way to do so is for the people who were wronged to apologize to the people who wronged them.

I think this is part of the reason I get so heated over this. Not only are you betting on Elon Musk and look like the biggest sucker in history, you're also saying that you consider a chatbot app to be AI which makes you look even dumber. It's an app. It's not alive. And you're using it to be lazy

This is all downstream from the idiot media who labeled hucksters as geniuses because Musk is very smart when it comes to running scams and playing the press. What Musk Zuck & Altman call AI is far from what it truly is. They made a digital friend who can do basic tasks. That's an app. Not AI.
