Notice DOJ doesn't talk about its efforts to obtain state voter files anymore. They are 0-20 in those cases and today is the beginning of the quiet period -- states can no longer do systematic removals of names from the voter rolls. TLDR: We won!🥳

It's why the frequent contempt you find on this site for religious people always bothers me. The strong moral code you can learn as part of religious life can be a strong source of moral strength among many otherwise apolitical people

Planning for a new leader and the rapprochement opportunities that follow is very different from saying let's seek Russia's breakup, factions fighting over the nukes, it's a less risky policy than managing relations with the current regime, etc.

Things I learned from a mentor 1999-2001 1. It may make sense to value 1 company in an new sector as a future monopolist; it makes no sense to value every company in the sector that way. 2. When you’re in the middle of an investment boom, you’re adding demand but once it’s done, you’ve added supply.

A bit troubling that so many people dismiss it as illogical when they hear news or rumors that Putin is allegedly considering resorting to nuclear weapons if xyz happens. Folks, the whole invasion is illogical. I still think nukes are very unlikely, but I wouldn't rule them out on rational grounds.

LLMs impress the writers who do not want to write, the coders who don't want to code, the researchers who don't want to research, and the lawyers that don't want to actually understand case law. Those that desperately tell you how powerful Al is and that you simply must use it are looking for you to validate their own laziness or distaste for effort, and those who are impressed with LLMs' outputs tend to be people with low standards.
