i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

This is ahistoric in every way (both politics and union organizing have strong social roots), and also oddly seems to presuppose religious organizations as the lone space of finding community which is not true.

a great place to start, if you own things that burn stuff, is making a list of all the things you own that burn stuff which one is gonna kick the bucket first? your car? your gas stove? your furnace? your dryer? you can make a plan to replace that thing with an electric thing when it dies

this is where your money goes when you buy harry potter stuff. rowling isn’t shy about it. amnesty wrote an even-handed report that laid out what anti-rights groups do; rowling uses her billions & clout to suppress it. when you give rowling money; she spends it on stealing people’s human rights.
jk rowling quotes an account called trans widows’ voices

rowling says:
Should any of the women's organisations targeted by @AmnestyUK's recent 'anti-rights' blacklist wish to take legal action, applications can be made to the JK Rowling Women's Fund.

trans widows’ voices says:

Whilst I understand the detriment to Beira's Place is real, and focussing on @jk_rowling get clicks it's a shame that mainstream press coverage of the Amnesty debacle is not also focussing on us smaller groups listed who do not have the same power or influence to defend ourselves

Not the use of the word "detained" here to make it appear as though the settlers have some legal capacity to be doing this. If i ran up on a US Rep with a rifle and prevented them from leaving it would be, correctly, described as kidnapping; and doing so with political ends would be terrorism.

If sexual abuse was really considered a terrible thing, the world's richest and most powerful people wouldn't be abusers. The most valued technology wouldn't produce sexual abuse on demand. And allegations of abuse wouldn't be framed as positive depictions of masculinity. Our culture rewards abuse.

If I ever write a big Epic Fantasy series, there will be no Book 5. Book 4 will end on a huge cliffhanger, followed by Book 6. Book 6 will be packed with oblique references to what the heroes did, but the heroes are glad they erased the old timeline because what they did must be kept secret.

A STARRED REVIEW! My three-headed dragon book got a starred review in Booklist! www.booklistonline.com/products/982...
An excerpt from the Booklist review of The Dragon Has Some Complaints, with a star next to the title denoting the book is special. The excerpt is just the start of the review, and reads "Centerhead, one of the three remaining heads of Garrodigh, the Great Terror, has complaints about everyone: the other wild dragons exclude him from their hiding spaces; the tame dragons won’t talk; the humans’ cannonball removed his missing head, Lefty, leaving him with PTSD and memory loss; and most of all, his other two heads, Upperhead and Bottomhead, are a constant bother. Regularly assailed by human air battles overhead, and unable to fly because of injuries from when they lost Lefty, Centerhead allows himself to be rescued as a “tame” dragon, planning to attack the Winged City from within. After they’ve fed him, of course. To his great surprise, he develops an attachment to some of the humans as they heal his..."

This is an effect from treating the product (an essay, a paper, a diploma) as the *point*. It isn't. It never was. In education, art, research, the invaluable part is never the product itself, but the *process.* If we don't teach that to kids, they'll never even know what was stolen from them.

This promo image from Bramble Romance shows the illustrated front cover of Stephanie Burgis's Melting the Ice Queen (Book 3 in The Queens of Villainy). Two women face each other, holding twin candles, in the midst of a cathedral made of ice. The woman on the left is slim, Black, and wears an icy crown above her cool blue wedding gown, with more shards of ice held ready in the air behind her as she regards her new bride with open suspicion; the woman on the right is white, red-haired, lushly curved, and wearing a gown of gold as she grins mischievously at her new wife, with rainbow-colored heat rays beaming out from her own figure. The tagline reads: Nothing melts the heart like an old flame.
