Periodic punctuation reminder, courtesy of Bob. www.angryflower.com/247.html
Wide, single panel, black and white comic strip by Steven Notley, titled "Bob's Quick Guide to the Apostrophe, You Idiots" with www.angryflower.com.

Summarized (detailed text to follow), the left side has a human-like person with a flower for a head wearing judicial robes scowling as he describes people being wrong about punctuation, with a list of examples with commentary below. Right side is an inset box of "Some Popular But Incorrect Rules" with examples and the grinning face of the flower mocking these "rules".

Logo that says "An UNWELCOME EDUCATION product" in lower right hand corner, and a dashed border surrounds implying one should cut this out to display or give to someone. Artist's stylized and illegible mark and date 8-23 in the corner.

Judge is saying "There's a lot of frustration in the newspaper cartoon industry about the public's deep ignorance about this elementary punctuation mark. Here, then, is a simple guide to some basic grammar, you illiterate morons." Below are three examples, each in own labeled box.

Contraction: The cat's out of the bag. Noted as "Correct"

Possessive: The cat's feet are out of the bag. Noted as "Also correct"

Plural: "All the cat's are out fo the bag." Noted, in even larger writing as "NO! WRONG! Totally wrong! Where'd you learn this? STOP DOING IT!"

Some Popular But Incorrect Rules box:
1. When pluralizing a word that ends with a vowel, add an apostrophe.
Noted "This is wrong!"
Examples: taco's burrito's latte's tomatoe's potato's knive's

2. When pluralizing any other word, add an apostrophe.
Noted "And so is this!"
Examples: ball's kitty's car's VCR's sheep's gribbl's

3. Add an apostrophe whenever you want.
Noted "And of course, so is this!"

Most text is hand lettered, except for the examples, the url, and title for inset box. Most hand lettered text is all capital letters, my transcription is using best judgment to determine ALL CAPS emphasis versus sentence casing, but does not reflect artist's choices directly.

"How can something exist which is not made for me?!" is a question which many cishet white men may well be asking themselves.

Well, everyone voted Don't Know, it's a protest vote for not putting Arlecchino on the list. I mean, I think I'd probably vote Columbina anyway. Although Pantalone and Il Dottore can both be fun, I wouldn't call either of them my favorite.

Matt Walsh complains that Nolan brought his obsession with nonlinear story telling to the Odyssey, undercutting the original's narrative. The defenders of western civilisation, folks.
Matt Walsh tweets: Nolan's obsessions with the non-linear storytelling gimmick really hurts this film. It jumps around so much, and spends so little time on any one particular moment or scene, that you never really feel like Odysseus is on an epic journey spanning many years. When he makes it home, you never feel like he's been gone for 20 years. The film does not capture the grandeur and scope of the original epic. That's why it feels rushed and too long simultaneously. The movie comes off like a rough draft. Nolan was searching for the actual story but never quite found it.

One thing that, while not the important part, but is wild to me is that they could have easily chosen to wear N95 masks instead of these gaiters, but their ideology means they can't wear masks that protect anyone's health, even their own.

The Muppets Karamazov really wouldn't work in any way past having a great title, but it's my entry. Really though the Three Musketeers feels so insanely well suited to the Muppet adaption paradigm though, it's hard to argue with.

Oof. There is no way in which "600% reduction in price" makes sense, of course. But I finally get what the (wrong) meaning is. When Trump says he reduced a price by 500%, he means the new price is 1/5 the old price. Tricky to figure out because RFK Jr. did the wrong math, wrong.

They’re telling me a great empire will be destroyed if I attack Persia. Even the oracles who don’t like me very much, very nasty, they all said to me, “Sir, it’s one of the great empires, and it’ll be destroyed. And all because you attacked Persia.” That’s what they’re telling me.

I was today old when I realized the opening words of Beethoven's 9th choral part, the "Ode to Joy" are not "O Freude" for "Oh Joy!" but are "O Freunde" for "Oh friends…" "Freude" gets repeated over and over, but isn't how it opens. Ol' Ludwig van's point here isn't subtle, that's entirely on me.

Lots of good discussion in the other replies, and thread quoted above. Been years since writing code was a meaningful part of my work, and this helped click in for me why coding differs from other types of expressive work in ways LLMs can meaningfully make the experience of creating better.

This framing makes me so angry. I'm upset the Dem caucus caved, but if we went through this in an earnest attempt to keep healthcare less ruinously expensive, I can at least be glad they tried. If they never thought it could work, and the pain and uncertainty was *messaging*? That's just monstrous.

Fucking aye. Friendly reminder that some people have life threatening anaphylaxis reactions to NSAIDs (i.e., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) making acetaminophen the only OTC pain killer that won't send them to the ER. Last time I took an aspirin, ER and four epinephrine shots barely kept me alive.
