one common thread (among the horrifying many) between the numerous ICE shootings/murders is that no first aid was administered to the victim. armed combatants of the government shot to kill, and if they didn’t kill right away, they gave time for it to happen anyway. it is absolutely grotesque.

The right to vote isn’t all that real if you can’t actually access it. Incarcerated organizers in Maine have had to fight over many years to win their rightful access—but even today plenty of gaps remain. My latest in @boltsmag.org: boltsmag.org/maine-prison...

Maine Prisoners Organize to Protect Their Rare Right to Vote - Bolts
Maine is one of the only places in the country where prisoners keep their right to vote. But logistical barriers to voting still contribute to their larger exclusion from the political process.

You can and should point out that police killing people daily is the "norm" in America. But that doesn't mean you *accept* the normalization of this violence and the way some people rush to smugly point these things out contributes to collective fatigue. Your horror has been stolen from you.

ICE and/or police murdered someone this morning in Biddeford, Maine. From the statements I’ve seen from local activists, I *think* the victim was a young Black man. You may already know Black immigrants are the largest non-white immigrant demo in Maine. A protest is already under way.

Washington Nat'l Opera sues the Kennedy Center alleging that the Center STOLE the opera's endowment. WNO had a longterm agreement where KC ran the opera's development back office, and in 2025 KC just ... stopped doing it and seized the funds. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
49. On January 8, the Kennedy Center’s Chief Financial Officer sent an email to
WNO’s General Director and Board President asserting for the first time and, contrary to the terms
of the 2024 Agreement, that the funds in the WNO BSRF belonged to the Kennedy Center. In
addition, the CFO disclosed that the Kennedy Center had used those funds—funds that the 2024
Agreement expressly required to be held for the long-term benefit of WNO—to collateralize the
Kennedy Center’s own line of credit.
50. The next day, on January 9, 2026, the WNO Board voted to terminate the 2024
Agreement. WNO’s Board President and Board Chair immediately notified the Kennedy Center
of that decision in a letter to Mr. Grenell and requested that the parties begin unwinding the
affiliation.

You have to be really committed to US violence and racism to remove these anodyne panels
"We find, upon reflection, that our duty to our country has not ended ... We as Vietnam Veterans, strongly feel that the United States should cease to build memorials to death and begin to glorify life," the quote reads."As we drew near to Boston, there stood Bunker Hill Monument, towering up towards the heavens, as if in silent, bitter mockery of the millions of slaves guarded by the professed lovers of Liberty, who reared it's lofty column," it reads, quoting from a 1846 letter to the Liberator, an abolitionist newspaper.
The third panel quote spoke in favor of foreign-born citizens.
"Now that a public orator has declared that foreign-born men have no association with the men of the Revolution, it is our duty to show that in love of freedom and loyalty to the republic, the citizens of foreign birth take no second place," the panel quotes from a Boston newspaper from 1875.

The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same.

I’d like to add something else to this convo: many of people who qualify for permanent residency in the United States would no longer qualify if they went home — because their existing visa is on the basis of refugee status (fear of home) or a job they’d lose. Like it’s absurd at every level.

www.politico.com/live-updates... republicans poisoned the smithsonian women's history museum bill because they're ideologically opposed to women, history, and museums in that order
While 127 Democrats cosponsored an earlier version of the bill, most of them bailed after Republicans altered it ahead of the floor vote.

New language added in the House Administration Committee last month dedicated the museum to “preserving, researching, and presenting the history, achievements, and lived experiences of biological women in the United States” and prohibited the institution from seeking to “identify, present, describe, or otherwise depict any biological male as a female.”

Other new provisions called for “an equal representation of the diversity of the political viewpoints and authentic experiences held by women in the United States” and gave President Donald Trump the unilateral power to relocate the museum from sites already identified on the National Mall.

The Democratic Women’s Caucus announced earlier this week it would oppose the altered bill after working on it with Republicans for years.

Poster which shows color photo scene of moving, a room with boxes and clothes sitting on the floor, a chair, and the end of a bed (white rails forming a headrest and a mattress with a red cover). The text of the poster is: "Impact (small logo top left)," "According to a new survey by the Movement Advancement Project, approximately 401,000 transgender people have relocated from one U.S. state to another since the 2024 presidential election."
