There’s always going to be someone better, faster, and more skilled than I. But no one is going to have the same artistic voice as mine. Creating isn’t a competition, it’s a form of communication and connection. It’s a vulnerable thing, but it’s beautiful that way.

OK this is THE WEREWOLF OF WHITECHAPEL, my bestselling novel and #1 in the Miss Sharp's Monsters trilogy! DRACULA meets ENOLA HOLMES in this tongue in cheek romp set in a version of 1890s Europe where all the ruling families are monsters. It's a hoot, get it here: books2read.com/u/mYAjLG
Image showing THE WEREWOLF OF WHITECHAPEL by Suzannah Rowntree against a red background, surrounded by tropes: "1890s Europe, if the royals were monsters!" "slowburn romance" "female friendship" "Dracula vibes" "who dun it?" "intrepid lady's maid" and "witty banter"

We’ve spent many, many hours over the past few months searching the rock pools of Cornwall for a rainbow sea slug. Today, we finally found one! Absolutely worth all the time we’ve spent - it was truly breathtaking.

Heads up, Bookworms: There will likely be💀supply chain issues💀 this holiday season. So if there are specific books you have your heart set on for holiday gifting, I strongly suggest you buy/order them ahead of time (✨like now✨) rather than waiting until November/December.

I was never a Beatles fan (don't hate their music, just not my personal thing) but as a young teen I loved the YELLOW SUBMARINE movie. It was just my kind of surreal bonkers.

I have spent 8 hrs 11 min in Scrivener today revising two scenes which amounted to less than 2.5K words in total, this is fine and perfectly reasonable and how dare you ask what is wrong with me (also I'm really happy with how they turned out, so)

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

No Anthropic Settlement email for me today, despite the fact that I submitted a claim for six US copyrighted books in October 2025 and got a confirmation code that it went through, plus a letter in March 2026 that a publisher had claimed 50% for my two titles that aren't out of print. Fantastic.

I found a giant plot hole yesterday that I had never noticed before, despite having worked on this book off and on for... *checks watch* ten years. Fortunately it only took two paragraphs to spackle over, and so far nobody seems to have noticed it but me, but oof, brain, what do I pay you for

The best Odyssey retelling you'll experience this year, featuring lines like "the sea was as dark as grape juice" and "DO NOT OPEN THIS BAG," the god thundered. "Right," squeaked Butter. He knew many big fat important words, but "foreshadowing" was not one of them.

Everything is terrible but books are good. Especially books written by real people. Talk about your books. Show us your art. Let us see the cool stuff you make. You need it but we need it too. Art helps maker and receiver get their heads above the rough, churning waters of reality. No shame in it.

Strictly speaking this is middle grade and a darn good one, but it's also perfect for the adult who wants a beautiful, mildly spooky cosy fantasy with a twist or two and some incredibly shippable romances among the adult supporting cast.

edits are more fun than drafting. there I said it. I have to speak my truth!!! edits are puzzle-boxes, they are logic problems made of art, they are graspable! drafting is the cosmic horror of gazing unto the infinite and pinky-promising you'll take notes if it consents to wink back in morse code 😭

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.
