This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

Today: started a re-watch of SAPPHIRE & STEEL. And episode 1 is amazing. Only 25 mins & everything is there - the setting, the characters, the dread, “Time is a corridor...” And some of the camerawork is amazing too - those first shots tracking through the house! Absolutely masterful television.
A still from Assignment One of Sapphire & Steel.
Sapphire is holding Helen, while Rob looks at Steel who is staring warily up at something malevolent.

While Millennials and Gen Z blame each other for ruining society, the same monsters that have been ruining society since before we were all born are laughing their asses off. Generational divides are made up, and that’s fine until they’re weaponized to keep us fighting over complete bullshit.

If I want to read an article on a website, I want to read it. Throw in a couple of pictures if you like, provided they're actually relevant. But if it's one of those pages that uses scroll based animation, stickies and [shudder] parallax effects, you can jam it up your hoop.

Everyone moving their stuff into AWS, which made it core for much of the internet, was a mistake. Such crucial infrastructure shouldn’t belong to a private company & we should seize it and turn it into to a publicly owned platform.

This is a really good essay about embracing uncertainty: aeon.co/essays/use-u... I think the artist who decided to get out of a rut by following the instructions of a randomisation algorithm like a modern-day Dice Man is slightly missing the point though 😂

This is interesting because I think I tend to have a bit of this attitude, I'd prefer to write a whole system rather than talk to someone. However, despite being remarkably good at my job, I'm a worker, not a manager and have actively refused to enter management. Some people just don't like people 😂

AI is an employee who never says no, never talks back, and who has no emotions, so you're free to be an asshole to it without consequence. Certain men have been fantasizing about this for their whole lives. They will happily burn the world down to create it.

Try & explain today that one of the most popular 70/80s tv comedies had a theme song called “Suicide is Painless”; was set during the Korean War (but really Vietnam) & had an episode where the main character was traumatized after witnessing a woman kill her baby so the cries didn’t attract attention

The octopus has a tearful expression and the text above reads, **"PLEASE DON'T EAT ME."** The artwork is signed **"Just Comics / Joan Chan"** at the bottom. The image conveys a plea for compassion toward animals, specifically octopuses, and highlights the emotional aspect of considering animals as food.

It’s terrifying being disabled and completely reliant on someone else for survival. Being unable to feed or clean yourself is unsettling. There isn’t help available. If your caregiver doesn’t show? You suffer. If they’re abusive? You suffer. The system does not protect us.
