Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance. They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along. They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

In Korean, the expression I know (목청껏) refers to vocal cords. It uses a particle that means like "to the extent possible", and so it's roughly "pushing my vocal cords to the brink".

Dutch has 'uit volle borst zingen' (singing out of full chest), meaning singing loudly/enthusiastically, which seems similar if a little more restricted in application (I don't think I know it to be used for shouting, just singing)

In English we say “at the top of my lungs” to mean “as loud as I can”. Do other languages have similar phrases? Do they refer to lungs or some other body part? Or use a different metaphor entirely?

Taking one of these apology shaped objects as meaningful is *just as much a huge red flag* as thinking any of its other output is meaningful. It's a sign you've got the exact same brainrot as the guys calling it their girlfriend.

The promise of AI in education is it will save educators time. That's rubbish. It's sapping all our time already in working groups, committees, workshops, and marking anxiety. It's the most time-sapping, exhausting and frankly boring thing I've ever encountered in HE - and it's in my research area.

Unique to America, our health care system is designed not to make people well, but to make CEOs & wealthy stockholders incredibly rich. The result: We have the highest infant mortality rate of any wealthy country on earth. How cruel, how immoral is that? We need Medicare for All.

I wish NPR would run fewer science stories like "how our brains work, part 43" or "the nature of time itself" and more on, say, climate change and ecosystems, fire, or extreme floods. And slip in a mention of how many fired fed employees or grant $ pulled focused on "exactly what we're discussing."

In case you wanted to know some of my thoughts on how student loans would be affected by all this nonsense...here you go! Gift link. www.wsj.com/personal-fin...
screenshot of the top of the article from the wall street journal. Title reads: What to know about student loans after trump's move to dismantle the education department. Subhead reads: The federal agency manages roughly $1.7 trillion in student loans to nearly 45 million people. By Oyin Adedoyin and Dalvin Brown. Updated March 20, 2025 at 6:06pm eastern.screenshot of the article that reads: Trump has suggested moving the student-loan portfolio to another agency, such as the Treasury Department or Small Business Administration.

That could mean changes to the contracts between loan servicers and the government, said Dominique Baker, associate professor of education and public policy at the University of Delaware.

With servicing changes, there can be headaches and delays. Last year, the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, or Mohela, a student loan servicer, transitioned record-keeping for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program to the Education Department. While the transition was happening, processing of forms and other information was paused, frustrating borrowers.

“The number one thing I would expect from that type of move is chaos,” Baker said. She said she could see a scenario where people are making payments but nobody is tracking how many they have made.

If there's one thing that domestic violence research has taught me, it's that abusers set up no-win scenarios. They punish you whether you cooperate with them or whether you push back. The only way out is to strengthen ties with people outside of the relationship who can create new, better options.
