There is something so undeniably predatory, and revealing of the institution’s essential character, that Cornell refused to refund the victim’s tuition so she could enroll somewhere else. www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

How the “Cornell Seven” Rape Case Became a National Scandal
The dismal responses from both the D.A. and the university reveal a larger pattern of institutional carelessness.

It’s also worth noting that it’s mathematically impossible to pay off a $3,600 balance at $50/month if you’re being charged 18% interest. Your interest the first month alone would be $54, which means you’d have to pay at least $55/mo to ever pay it off (it would take 22 1/2 years at $55/mo).

Just because you/I don't understand AI doesn't mean that no one does. So many people buy into this 'poorly understood' line that lets commercially-motivated tech companies off the hook for harms & near-catastrophes. Kudos to @emilymbender.bsky.social & @timnitgebru.blacksky.app for this.

my read on the Trump promise is that it’s running into two separate and contradictory types of backlash at the same time: 1. people don’t believe he’ll actually give them money 2. people believe that ‘undeserving’ recipients will get money

People make the same predictions about "personalised movies" — absolute numbbrained bullshit. But I guess what do you expect from people who "fixed" the "eating problem" by creating a nutritionally perfect grey slop so that they didn't need to actually bother with eating real food?

Blue wave signs: the two conservatives running for local seats both have blue signs, maybe hoping for some confusion? One is running as an independent (but clearly being supported by all the local Rs) and the other has a sign that says "Lets get to work. Together" Coulda used that attitude in 2010

Listened to Ezra Klein interview Bill Gates. Despite Ezra treating him with kid gloves Gates got shockingly prickly a couple of times. I don't think he is used to any pushback or skeptical framing ever. Still, my main takeaway is that the AI world Gates paints is depressingly bleak. No thank you!

In a normal administration counterintelligence agents at the FBI would be investigating this photo. In this administration, the FBI director is in the photo.
Michael Weiss: Why, that’s Ali Abdelaziz is on the far left. Manages a lot of Russian, Belarusian and Chechen MMA fighters including Khamzat Chimaev, who is close to Kadyrov. Abdelaziz was an FBI informant until the Bureau dropped him because they suspected he was a double agent. Looks like Ka$h (far right) has forgiven and forgotten. These MAGA weddings are Mos Eisley cantinas for counterintelligence.

It was actually fine when Obama tried to freeze Fox out, because Fox is not a legitimate news organization, and the fact that a CNN anchor, of all people, thinks they're equivalent is one reason CNN has lower ratings than a test pattern. Also, this is...not dignified.
