We need fully publicly financed elections: mostly for anti-corruption and political equality reasons, but also so we never have to see stuff like this ever again
Will you please please please please pretty please pitch in $1 to Sherrod Brown's campaign today?

In general I think shirking is a hugely effective tool in the cops political arsenal and whole progressive elected officials have a workable toolkit for punishing affirmative abuses (abuse of force, etc), there’s less of one for negative abuses (refusing to do the legitimate parts of the job)

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

Look, this is bad. Yes. But the Trump admin sent six (6) people to Maricopa and Pima. Where, by my count, there are 404 polling places, spread across 18,000 square miles (each county is ~9k sq mi). What they want is the FEAR to discourage the voting they can't actually prevent.

One major issue with America right now is that as long as the government is your boss you're just totally insulated from accountability for felonies you commit, even when a judge says you obviously committed them. They aren't even framed as felonies! Impunity squared. We should prosecute all of them

The Constitution allows it. South Korea has proven it works. If you want to make impeachment viable—and so much else is pointless if you don't—then it can be done by a simple majority adopting a simple rules change: vote on the verdict by secret ballot.

A Democratic Senate Should Adopt Secret Impeachment Ballots on a Priority Basis
Such a change, requiring no constitutional amendment, would free senators to vote their judgment instead of their fears

I think the problem is that for whatever reason, society/the media/whoever have correctly determined we need a way to reintegrate millions of people into society and from that incorrectly determined the way to do so is for the people who were wronged to apologize to the people who wronged them.

Truly incredible that this is how the media is choosing to eulogize the longest-serving Republican Speaker of the House in US history, who was a serial sexual abuser of children. For all the talk about "deep state" plots to abuse children, no one even remembers this case.
From CBS News: "Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who represented Illinois for two decades in Congress and was later jailed for violating banking laws, has died."

If we're going to denaturalize and deport people for sex trafficking they hid on their citizenship applications, is there a reason this would not apply to Ghislaine Maxwell?
CHILD SEX ABUSER’S CITIZENSHIP REVOKED AFTER NATURALIZATION FRAUD CONVICTION

Cyril Domaquik Clemens, a Liberian native, was convicted of three counts of indecent liberties with a child after confessing to sexually molesting a young child.

The abuse began before he naturalized, but he concealed it during the citizenship process, fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship.
