Fines and damages should be proportionate to a business’s assets. That’s the only way any of them will follow the law. When we sued Google for gender discrimination and they settled for $118M, that was still cheaper for them than paying women fairly.

There's something brutally disarming about seeing someone grieve over the loss of a beloved pet. Maybe it's because I have more experience losing pets than people, but it rarely breaks through me the same way when someone loses a human loved one compared to when it's an animal companion.
