Fun fact about Obama and Susan Collins: In 2009, Collins was a firm NO on passing ACA. The other Maine Republican, Olympia Snowe, was torn—voted yes in cmte, then no on floor under GOP pressure. By 2017, as ACA became popular, Collins got behind it, voting to sink a repeal bill.

NEW: Social Security is a sleeper 2026 campaign issue. Senate candidates like Talarico (D-Texas), Turek (D-Iowa), El-Sayed (D-Mich.), Osborn (I-Neb.) are calling to lift the payroll tax cap to avoid a 22% benefit cut. The shortfall hits in 2032, or six years. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...

Senate candidates run on raising Social Security taxes for higher incomes to prevent benefit cuts
Social Security is projected to dip into insolvency and force a 22% benefit cut in 2032, or less than six years, meaning the class of senators elected this year will have to address the issue.

This is some timing. We just led this morning's newsletter with #MN01! A Dem group called Your Community PAC has spent $1.5 mil so far to help Jake Johnson flip a conservative seat that has remained out of Democrats' grasp ever since Tim Walz opted to run for governor in 2018.

This is how historian Robert Paxton defined a certain word that begins with F in his 2004 book.
Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.
