Big thank you to Pakistan Society of Basic & Applied Neuroscience for allowing me to present virtually when a last minute disruption prevented me from traveling to Lahore for their 10th Annual Neuroscience Conference! Here’s to making neuro more accessible to all! 🧠
A computer slide reads “Coupling vs Competition Between Encoding and Prediction in Behavior and in the Hippocampus” as the title followed by the subtitle “Raheema Javid, Craig Poskanzer, Hannah Tarder-Stoll, & Mariam Aly.” The next line reads “Alylab, Columbia University.” On the right hand top corner of the screen is a small rectangle with Raheema’s live zoom feed. The slide starts with the heading “Introduction” followed by the text “The hippocampus alternates between states that prioritize encoding new memories and states that prioritize retrieving existing memories to support prediction.” Beneath that is two diagrams: on the left side retrieval mode is depicted by a man not in taking the information from the blue follower in the real world but retrieving previously stored information about the orange flower by called upon recurrent CA3 connections and CA3 to CA1 connections. On the right hand, encoding mode is illustrated by the man not retrieving memory of the orange flower but encoding the blue flower in the real world by calling upon EC projections onto the CA3 and CA1 region. Next reads “Do encoding and prediction compete or cooperate in behavior?” On the right hand top corner of the screen is a small rectangle with Raheema’s live zoom feed.
