Currently re reading To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s just brilliant story telling built around characters. The best stories ALWAYS have you invest in the characters. #booksky

“Zionism is racism” is not a policy but a slogan. It compresses a complex history, going back millennia, and a very wide set of beliefs into one narrow meaning. The answer to genocide is not discrimination. We don't fight racism with racism. I’m gutted to see this motion adopted by the Green Party.

Rico Charges @NoChorus

Once at my granny's house my uncle excitedly said a James Bond film was on the tv. My Da said "sure they're all the same, a load of lads shooting at one lad then a mountain blows up." My uncle got really mad at how reductive that was then became furious when the mountain blew up.

My Da, of course, knew it was the one where the mountain blows up at the end. This was a foundational lesson which illustrated to me that walking the path of the hater means knowing more about something that people

I would love to ask a prominent BBC journalist to give me an example of an illegitimate concern. Is seems to me that it has become a question not of fact, logic, or ethics but of volume. If a big enough proportion of a village was anxious about Bigfoot or Chemtrails, BBC would cover it in a way...

In the 1970s, a group of farmers digging a well stumbled upon one of the greatest archaeological finds in history. They had found the terracotta army—some 8,000 life-size clay soldiers, buried over 2,000 years ago. The soldiers had real weapons, **which were still sharp**. How? 1/8 ⚛️🧪

Struggling a little bit with Dostoyevsky’s The Double. It’s not the writing as such, just that I know I need proper headspace to absorb it properly. And that is hard to come by these days. Might open a completely different book tonight. Essays maybe or a short story.

UEFA may support Belgium's protestations against the suspension of Balogun's ban. This feels like a key moment - not in this WC, but in Infantino's reign. The award of the Fifa Peace Prize to Trump was the pivotal moment, but Gianni didn't hear the trigger. He carried on. He'll regret it.
