A new IWPR report confirms that college-educated Black women are more likely to lead in government than in companies. Which is why the DOGE cuts that slashed federal jobs have been particularly devastating for college-educated Black women. #blacksky

we are watching a massive transfer of wealth during an era of massive wealth creation (however much it might be just paper money it’s powerful) — reinscribing gender during this moment is a choice about who will be a citizen for the next three hundred years.

ffs I just read a European job ad that explicitly requires TWO PUBLISHED MONOGRAPHS for an asst prof position. yes, yes, I knew it was like this but it's truly startling to see TWO required. it's official: unis have zero respect for books & the ppl who write & publish them. Nothing affirms it more.

Just finished reading this finally & have too many good things to say about the thoroughness/care taken—in gathering/analyzing the data, in the writing itself, which is fantastic—to say them all here. Especially grateful for the frank comments about the variable nature of publishing decision making.

Yesterday I turned—gulp—48 and as of today I’m going to try to be a standing desk person. Aging! It is so extremely a thing!
My new standing desk—and by new I mean it sat in a box for four months until I finally asked my partner to set it up for me yesterday because I was clearly not making it happen.

If you have submitted your manuscript for peer review, it is "under review." Your editor may still be looking for reviewers. That, too, counts as "under review." The process of GETTING reviewers is part of the review process. Things taking time is not a broken process. That IS the process.

Sometimes when emailing reviewers I take care to maintain a poker face, lest I tilt the scales or suggest bias, but then I think: why would I invite a manuscript if I wasn't psyched about some element of it? I'm asking you to review it BECAUSE I want to publish it. No secret there!
