If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

It's #fossilfriday! Here's a guy from HOW TO SURVIVE PREHISTORY: Arthropleura, a (probably!) herbivorous millipede relative that roams the coal forests of Carboniferous Scotland. Survival Verdict: YES. It's got a nasty nip, but we feel if you get bit, you have it coming.

I like big borbs and I cannot lie (I posted a really similar shot of this bird a few days ago, but it's still such a silly big brown borb!) #BirdOfTheDay #Borbs #Brown 📷🌿🪶
A photo of a juvenile Cooper's hawk (Astur cooperii) perched on the flat top of a cut off tree stump, its wings held partially out, tail up, and feathers floofed out while it gazes upward with its beak slightly open. It's a medium-sized hawk with a dark brown upper body, streaky brown and tan breast & belly, striped tail, smalled hooked beak, and pale irises. A rat's tail is just visible hanging over the edge of the stump behind the hawk. The background is a blurred shady forest setting.

Rob’s choice is #Borbs for today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme; birds looking plump Alternative is #Brown, any bird with brown plumage I’ve gone with the Alt theme. We visited the British Wildlife Centre in Lingfield last year and saw this sleeping Tawny Owl. I just couldn’t resist taking its photo ☺️
A Tawny Owl is sitting on the branch of a tree and is fast asleep with its eyes closed. It has brown and white plumage.

I think New Zealand has the most beautiful money — both aesthetically & because each note honors a native bird: Hoiho/Yellow-eyed Penguin ($5) Whio/Blue Duck ($10) Kārearea/NZ Falcon ($20) Kōkako ($50) & Mohua/Yellowhead ($100). Are there any other beautiful currencies you think can compete with NZ?
