the point of a game is not to beat it, it is to play it. difficulty is only "a problem" if it is "in the way" of beating the game, which is an issue in the mindset of the player, not in the structure of the game. redoing parts of a fun game is not a punishment, it's an invitation to hang out

the main thing that makes me uneasy about llms is the cultural backdrop of global war on knowledge. the war on knowledge isn’t new but now it’s cheered on from tech too. tools for thought pivoted to slot machines because that’s what people want. “how things work” is buried under opaque indirections

If you want a summary of Casey Muratori's 2 hour talk on OOP: Draw your object boundaries ✅ around the systems (physics, combat, fuel) ❌ not the domain model (mech, guard, lantern) Because Ivan Sutherland told you so in 1963
Alt text:
A diagram showing an Entity-Component-System (ECS) architecture. It has three vertical columns labeled “physics,” “combat,” and “fuel,” each containing a list of components. Each column is separated by a red vertical line. Colored circles (brown, blue, and green) are above each column. Arrows connect component slots across columns, forming links between different systems. On the right side, there’s a list of entity IDs: “mech,” “guard,” and “lantern,” each associated with certain components from the columns. For example, “mech” links to components in physics, combat, and fuel. The diagram visualizes how entities are formed by combining different components.

One of the funniest things in AI is someone posting some image and going “we are cooked” and then someone replying with all the flaws in the image and the response is always, “yeah, but imagine what it’ll be like in 6 months” ad nauseam. It’s basically: This is crap. Them: But imagine if wasn’t.

Pet theory: 50% of the dislike of "green bubbles" by American iOS users comes from the design, which purposefully makes the green bubbles much lower text-to-background contrast (use a WCAG contrast checker if you want to check this).
