The haploid genome of the single cell amoeba 'Polychaos dubium' is 210 times LARGER than the human genome. Amphiuma newts have a genome 26 times larger than the human genome. Even the onion's genome is 4.9 times as large as ours. Are they all just *more complicated* than humans?
A diagram showing genome sizes for some organisms. It has blue shaded bars that show genome sizes in kilobases (with the width of the bar indicating variation) for Flowering plants, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, bony fish... etc.

The key takeaway is that mammals have large genomes, but not as large as some flowering plants, amphibians, and bony fish.P. dubium, floating form. I think the image is from Ferry Siemensma, from the MicrobeWiki. It looks like a koozy stress release toy, or a tumbleweed, or a caltrop, but clear and just visible as a series of edges.
