Hilarious and deeply insightful writing by @brianphillips.lol.
Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.

Increasingly it seems like every billionaire is simply Sauron from Marvel:
a picture of Spider-Man talking to Sauron, a supervillain who looks like a pterodactyl. Sauron is riding a triceratops.
dialogue:
Sauron: "With the DNA liberated from the grave desecration you call a museum, I have perfected the saurinization process. You rice paper puppets will be given forms befitting Earth's dominant species."
Spider-Man: "You can rewrite DNA on the fly and you're using it to turn people into dinosaurs? But with tech like that, you could cure cancer!"
Sauron: "But I don't want to cure cure cancer. I want to turn people into dinosaurs."

(yes, this is a real comic panel that really did get printed.)

Perhaps the problem with buying pipelines industry doesn't want to build is that the resources they are carrying are uneconomic on world markets and we should stop allowing politicians to lie to the public about that? No? Then perhaps the Conservative Party can have an original idea.

Sites that only use cookies for essential functions such as logging-in users don’t need the popup. If a site has a popup, it’s because they want to do data collection.

Yes, it does, IDF. You denied killing U.S. reporter Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022 until evidence forced an admission. Then you murdered hundreds of journalists in Gaza and denied it all over again. Want credibility? Let international press into the Strip.

Some linear decks had indexing. They used (basic) optical sensors to detect the gaps. Tended towards the mid-range, price-wise.

Tech companies are trying to use the ELIZA effect and cute animation to sell you devices that will surveil you constantly, convince you they're your best and only friend, sap you of your cognitive capacities, and push your purchasing habits and opinions in whatever way they please. That's it.

The buildings themselves are a problem. Alongside other problems.

When that bubble bursts, everything a value inside these buildings will be destroyed or scrapped. There will just be a hastily built cheap shell left scarring the face of the Earth. They are not “data centers“ in the classical sense. They are cancerous tumors.

No one is trying to build hundreds of general purpose data centres across North America. Because there is no demand for that much general purpose server space. Only the AI bubble is driving these construction projects.

The AI doomerism being pushed by the tech oligarchs is meant to reinforce the idea that AI is inevitable, unstoppable, and impossible to regulate. But it's not. It's just going to require that we go back to global cooperation, hard as it may sound. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

Techbros desperate to keep the bubble inflated because their wealth is entirely contained within it. “In six months this will have the power to destroy humanity. Sure that sounds bad, but do you want China to be the only one with that power? Better keep the money flowing.”

I think the best way to think about the Omarchy stuff is not a bunch of companies donating millions of dollars to a Linux dotfiles project. It’s a bunch of companies donating money to a political advocacy project with goals like getting minorities out of open source and eliminating the Roma.

I would find things that happened in the show and would think of scripture that relates to what happens in the stories.
