Imagine how fucking rotted a person's brain has to be to submit a 50,000 line pull request and not perceive that what you are doing is *incredibly* embarrassing and antisocial. A vibecoder can no longer notice they're greeting people by spraying hot dogshit all over the place.

yeah, and I think we'll have to start sending kids to brain gym young (like 5 or 6), obviously with age & developmentally appropriate brain workout content that they can work up through in, like, graded levels with qualified brain fitness instructors.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
As we join the great theoretical scientist, he is deep in thought. So still, quiet and focused that he might almost be asleep. But inside that brilliant mind, what new idea is forming? What certainty is being meticulously interrogated? What ingenious theory is ready to change our world forever? (the scientist snores lightly) Ah, it seems he actually is asleep. And that's fine. Science is hard and not every day can be a success. We will come back another time.

Franklin: My final report
Watson: Little Rosie Franklin’s research! I bet it’s something!
Franklin: ROSALIND.
Crick: Oh, that’s a big name
W: You’re getting fancy on us! Tell me—
F: Ah. I love this game.
W: Is it a scientific breakthrough in feelings?
F: Well, I suppose I have to go into hysterics or have a baby somewhere, good day gentlemen

Some scams are easier to spot than others. That said, we get these semi-regularly and they are only getting more focused and custom-tailored, so be careful writers! And, no, we didn’t reply, but it was super-tempting.
Text from a scam email message which reads:

Hi Arthur C. Clarke,

I recently came across 2001: A Space Odyssey, the 25th Anniversary Edition, and wanted to reach out.

I’ve been connecting with authors whose books are available to readers but may not be reaching as many new audiences as they could.

I’m curious how has your experience been with book visibility and reaching new readers? And have you considered exploring new ways to promote your book or expand its reach to additional platforms?

I’d genuinely be interested in hearing your thoughts and experience.

Panel 1: a smiling man holds up a tablet playing a video of a cat on a unicycle playing a drum. “Look! A cat drummer on a unicycle!”

Panel 2: frowning onlookers smugly say “it’s just AI.”

Panel 3: the cat, at home, looks hopeful. “So? Did they like it?” The man, sad, says, “your talent fell upon the worst possible era.”

My modified Agfa Click with a ridiculous f:600. I think. I wrote .2 in it, but the .2 hole is in my archive and the only one missing is the .1. Hence f:600
I turned a Agfa Clic camera into a pinhole camera. The hole .1 mm, so it is incredibly slow. So many minutes, sometimes hours

Are You Kidding Me?
Can this Great Horned Owl's eyes get any bigger?
I'm excited that my photo "Are You Kidding Me?" was selected as one of just 43 finalists in the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, from more than 10,000 entries representing 112 countries!
The story behind it is just as crazy. I was photographing this seven-week-old owlet when a squirrel suddenly launched from a nearby branch and landed directly on its head, knocking both of them out of the tree.
And believe it or not, a squirrel knocked this same owlet out of the tree THREE TIMES that morning! Fortunately, the owlet was fine and eventually settled down next to its mother.

(photo depicts a squirrel in mid-flight from a tree branch, apparently about to attack an owl who has the most "are you fucking KIDDING me" look in history)second photo showing the squirrel in question making contact with the owl like the lil furry-tailed (if short-sighted) badass he isthird photo showing the squirrel in question making contact with the owl like the lil furry-tailed (if short-sighted) badass he is

As a high school teacher we’ve always had to encounter this from students. But you’d think the people who go into academia would have a love of knowledge. We’re so focused on knowledge as a means to an end rather than it being an end of itself and that attitude is permeating society more and more.

Opening this thing takes some time. Only 8 exposures. You try to make them count. Or not 🤣
When the film is finished, you keep rolling it till you see black. As 120 film can be used for different aspects ratio, the paper backing has numbers in at least three places and the cameras have this little windows to see what you are doing A fast release plate, because I live in the 21st century and there is already too much suffering

When I was a little kid, the future (very far future at the time) was going to be much better than the present, almost a paradise, close to a utopia. See, we believed in the idea of progress. But come on, this is ridiculousPartly the fast release plate is because this does not really sits well on a tripod
Ilford makes very good film. I like then

Very slow street photography
An old Agfa Clack camera (really, the production stopped before I was born and I am 60 next year) converted into a pinhole camera using a 0.3 mm hole. Takes pictures in 6x9 format on 120 film. I was going museum visiting, but Barcelona is under a warning of torrential rains, so the museums (at least the public ones) are closed. So, as I had my pinholes cameras with me, I decided to go photo-spot-hunting. The day is a little overcast, but there is light enough
