Cities keep shelling out taxpayer money for sports stadiums, yet the economics almost never makes sense
Communities almost never see a boost in job or income growth after taxpayers subsidize a new sports facility.

Without getting too preachy about this, "suicidal empathy" is pretty much the core idea of Christianity: a religion built around a Christ who submits to death on a cross, because of his love for others.

Some questions/thoughts on DEI in the academy as an informed but once-removed observer. 1. How do the infractions Jason Arday was guilty of compare to the longstanding pre-DEI tradition of high-value professors not crediting the work/co-authorship of their research assts, particularly women?

Reform’s new welfare policy has caught my attention for a reason that has a similar feel to my posts about vocational education. It raises a question about how we learn from successful European systems: Are we buying the furniture without first studying the foundations? www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/

One of the most annoying things about AI is that when colleagues use it, it produces verbose (ie waaay over-long) reports/responses. Which means, in turn, that I have to spend more time reading said reports/responses. It's no wonder Copilot constantly asks 'do you want me to summarize this?'

Subsidising energy consumption in the face of both a short-term supply shock and the long-term need to decarbonise. Bad for the economy, bad for the planet, bad for the world's poor. And *if* you favour a wealth tax (I am sceptical but there's a case) spending it on *this" is just idiotic.
