I'm so grateful for this pushback. I'm grateful to be seeing widespread pushback against AI because of the cost to the environment, our wallets, and our rights, but I'm worried that too few people are pushing back because it undermines our trust in expertise and experience. #spéirgorm

Once again it needs to be stressed that this is something happening across the board in Irish immigration- changes in practice leading to refusals that would not have occurred in previous years. We are in a very dark time for the rights of people migrating to Ireland and their families.

The more I look at it, the more this graph at the end of my most recent Gist explains the behaviour of so many of Ireland's political parties. SF, for example, simply can't deal with 50% of its supporters looking to strengthen institutions while the other 50% want to blow them up.
Stacked bar chart from More in Common, June 2026. Question: "Which comes closest to your view? Please use a scale of 1–4 where 1 means you agree with the first statement and 4 means you agree with the second." Statement 1: "Our political and social institutions are worth preserving and improving, not destroying." Statement 4: "When I think about our political and social institutions, I cannot help thinking 'just let them all burn.'" Results in percent, listed as 1 (preserve), 2, 3, 4 (burn):

All respondents: 28, 30, 22, 20.
Fianna Fáil: 46, 29, 13, 11.
Sinn Féin: 25, 25, 25, 25.
Fine Gael: 47, 31, 13, 9.
Green Party: 46, 22, 21, 12.
Labour: 36, 36, 20, 8.
Social Democrats: 23, 49, 22, 7.
Independent Ireland / Aontú: 15, 28, 27, 29.
Other: 28, 26, 21, 26.
Non-voters: 20, 32, 25, 23.

Drawing created by Paul Davidson c.1967, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, where he was compelled to live. This is one of a small number of his surviving works & no biographical information is currently known to us
A crayon drawing of a white boy’s head with short brown hair and purple and orange rays emitting from his eyes, he is inside a square structure reminiscent of a window of theatre set with prance curtains, above a rectangle full of blue and green stars with red legs, and on either side are hands with their index fingers pointed
