Too many people are analyzing the cyber risks of open models in a narrow lens, assuming China doesn't care about safety, and fear mongering about private information on open-weight cyber attacks. The public information we have paints a very different picture. www.interconnects.ai/p/the-cyber-...

Ignoring that it's DHH, this is really just a typical example of how many developers are generating code now. Sometimes it's totally fine and other times its kinda scary. Always a huge advantage for the rest of us who continue to maintain a strong understanding and control over our generated code.

idk how people trust anything other than a local model with full unrestricted access to their calendar, email, contacts, messages, cloud storage, financial information, health data, etc. it's absurd that people just do not care anymore, companies don't even hide all the info they want anymore

advice for junior engineers: - use AI to learn as much as you can on the job, including IDing patterns btwn internal repos - develop your own agent skills and allow your agents to update them with your permission - consider your code as it exists in a system at every layer (app, infra, initiative) 🧵

the problem with ai for the kind of person with my kind of brain is not that it offloads hard cognitive work, per se, but rather it enables a certain disposition to run 24/7 best summarized as:
I SHOULD DO EVERYTHING

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

aside from everything that is obviously wrong with the screenshot, how many real-world use cases involve the LLM doing mental math vs creating a spreadsheet or Jupyter notebook?

It is strange how much LLMs turned out to be able to solve such a wide range of hard problems that would not, instinctively, seem to be problems that a model of human language would be able to solve This is from a Stanford project that let Astra drive a robot in a kitchen tml.stanford.edu/homebody/

Absolutely one of the most under-known facts about OpenAI was that chatgpt was like a weird little side project, a proof of concept for their LLM technology, and when it blew up, they made the debatable but probably (from a business PoV) correct decision to toss everything else and go all-in on that

Really depends. Up until Opus 5.5 he kept insisting in using Fable and Astra for everything. From my experience what's driving up my costs are adversarial reviews. Some PRs go for 7 or 8 rounds before a signoff. Agents (Opus+) keep saying the findings are legit so it's hard to cut them short.

the myth of token subsidies is basically dead, right? open source inference providers are so cheap it proves the true cost of a token is very low, and the high cost of claude tokens imo indicates limited supply rather than propping up demand. oai is able to cut costs because they have more computers
