Elite impunity is perhaps the single greatest problem in American politics going back to Gerald Ford’s Watergate pardons. These people keep getting away with it. This needs to stop.

And sure, yes, "we don't care what the other person said; you can't say 'go fuck yourself' here" is a rule you can have But if you enforce that more zealously than you enforce rules about hate speech that folks said "go fuck yourself" in response to? People will draw conclusions about your values.

We found an 1854 US dime this week on site in the Fraser Canyon. It’s called a “sitting Liberty”, 97% silver (thus the excellent preservation, Canadian coins could never).
A well-worn silver coin on a dirty hand. It pictures a woman in drapey clothes, holding a torch, sitting beside a shield that says LIBERTY. At the bottom is the year 1854.A well-worn silver coin on a dirty hand. It says ONE DIME in the middle of a laurel (?) wreath, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the outsideA well-worn silver coin on a dirty hand. After fifteen years of studying the anti-vax movement, I came to the conclusion that upholding legal requirements for vaccines for school entry is the single most important thing we can do. You cannot use facts to convince someone who did not employ facts to make their decision. So use the law.

refuting every claim anybody makes is not in fact how science, or any discipline, works discarding approaches that have proven fruitless or wrongheaded, not stopping to re-litigate them every time someone digs up a junk data set or a retracted article they wish were true, is how disciplines move

Save the planet from climate change? Oh no, much too hard, we couldn't possibly spare the resources to rapidly decarbonise our energy systems. You built a somewhat mid AI model? Yes, yes, here is several trillion dollars, we will build new power stations to feed the slop monsters.
