In a civilized society, this driver would have charges filed against them and their license suspended as a matter of course. We, on the other hand, must live in the umbra of the Philadelphia Police Department.

This is the thing. If AI is supposed to save you time for the things that Really Matter, and reading a book to your baby is not something that Really Matters, then what are you doing? These guys really just want AI to live their lives while they grind Kalshi and Polymarket all day every day.

This is why imperial collapses can often seem extraordinarily sudden: They come as the culmination of decades of undermining the institutions, relationships, and structures that keep states functioning. A jenga tower can stand with missing blocks until it's given a tiny push.

I'm hardly the first to say this, but if you told high school me about this iteration of Kristol, it would've blown my mind harder than a Dorito would've caused a Medieval peasant to spontaneously detonate.

A big dividing line on this stuff is that *most* people seem to think there is something unique and special about human cognition and consciousness. I, personally, do not (in the sense that I believe it is far more likely that consciousness is a fundamentally physical phenomenon).

@theferocity.bsky.social Starting Widow's Bay...
It's the Vince McMahon meme format with four panels where he is progressively getting more hyped until he has laser eyes in the final panel. Because this is Widow's Bay related its actors/actresses that are great in the order that they appear. Matthew Rhys is the main character and first to be shown as the mayor of the small island town, then Dale Dickey plays an employee in the mayor's office. Stephen Root shows up soon after as the main antagonist (or honestly maybe he is the protagonist, hard to tell at this point). and then in episode 2 Toby Huss shows up as a Pastor? Just amazing.

These people had protected status. They lived here legally. They worked, they paid taxes. They made lives. Raised families. Now we’ve dehumanized them. Ripped away that protection and told them to get out. This is a stain on the soul of this Nation.

It's being treated as a policy victory that we have less of the world's smart young people coming to learn from us, participate in our society and economy. This is just so depressing to me, it feels like a complete victory for know-nothing ignorant bigotry over enlightened sensibilities.
