I moved down to 420mm on my trainer bike and it definitely feels better. I'd be interested in trying 400s.

I’m kind of surprised you were able to muster up that many words for these “updates”. I don’t think I could have. But I do agree the new remote is easily the best part. As soon as I learned it was compatible with the 3rd gen I ordered one.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a little dog is sleeping on a couch, kicking its paws. A person says, “look! The little kicks!” Panel 2: in awe of the cuteness, the person continues, “what do you think he’s dreaming about?” Panel 3: in the dog’s dream, the pup is wearing a captain’s jacket, holding tightly to a wooden ship on stormy seas. In his other paw, he is gripping a harpoon as an enormous vacuum cleaner breaches violently from the water.

Even knowing what the vine st expressway looks like I can't conceive of what that would be like immediately adjacent to south street.

Princess Bride: Inconceivable!
Alt: A gif from the Princess Bride where Vizzini exclaims "Inconceivable!". It is just one of many times he says it, this time he is leaned back against the side of a ship. Vizzini is played Wallace Shawn, who is short, middle aged, balding, white guy in the movie, who wears a fairly intricate woven overcoat throughout the movie, intended to evoke being associated with the upper classes in a medieval setting. I don't know, he's a henchman, but for a prince. I doubt he is aristocracy himself, but maybe his family has been in close employ by the Prince's family for a while? Its kind of irrelevant to the gif, but the gif is also kind of irrelevant unless you are already familiar with the Princess Bride. So if you are reading this because you don't have the context already I'm afraid that all these words aren't really going to help you. The point is, its a pretty iconic reference to the movie and most people who have seen it will remember it.

I go in waves. A 3 story rowhome is a challenge for wifi-coverage, but I've had that sorted out for a while now. I've also iterated a bunch trying to handle my switching on the cheap but I eventually just bought the right sized ubiquiti PoE switch and now everything just sits there and works.

I 'fuck with my home network' way more than the average joe, but I recognize that this is one of my hobbies. I wouldn't argue that anyone else should do it, too. And honestly, I spend a lot less time messing with Unifi than I do Home Assistant(!) and Unraid.

will try to answer these in a piece next week but for now i will say that part of the *point* of court expansion, in my mind, is to create a disequilibrium — a potential race to the bottom — that will force a truce.

If only every vehicle manufactured for the last 8 years had been required to have a backup cam, that would be useful for situations like this.

Fair enough. I guess I just see trolling as disingenuously making arguments that you don't really believe, and also want to believe there is a difference between having a heterodox position and trolling. Could be a meaningless distinction, though.

Well, I see the message accompanying the link on bluesky as pre-acknowledging it won't be popular here (and it rightfully isn't!). But having read his shit for decades now, I think it’s a genuine (if very myopic) belief and wasn't written to troll Bluesky in particular.

I don't think you will be missing anything by blocking him, but I am confident this take is simply myopic rather than trolling (or an op, as I have seen claimed elsewhere).

In a civilized society, this driver would have charges filed against them and their license suspended as a matter of course. We, on the other hand, must live in the umbra of the Philadelphia Police Department.

This is the thing. If AI is supposed to save you time for the things that Really Matter, and reading a book to your baby is not something that Really Matters, then what are you doing? These guys really just want AI to live their lives while they grind Kalshi and Polymarket all day every day.

This is why imperial collapses can often seem extraordinarily sudden: They come as the culmination of decades of undermining the institutions, relationships, and structures that keep states functioning. A jenga tower can stand with missing blocks until it's given a tiny push.

I'm hardly the first to say this, but if you told high school me about this iteration of Kristol, it would've blown my mind harder than a Dorito would've caused a Medieval peasant to spontaneously detonate.

I think people more or less understand this when it comes to the used car market. Sure, you can sell privately and make more, but its a pain in the ass. The car dealership will offer you less than its "worth" but they have to put work into selling it, and its how they make their profit.

If it were truly Bluesky targeted, it would have included the bit from the ITYSL skit about spanking his bare bottom. It would have rendered the ad nonsensical, but it would have gotten it sufficiently close to Alf hog or Gandalf with big naturals for the audience here.

I rode an eMTB for the first time last week (Bosch CX based) and I'm kind of surprised there isn't something like an e-bike 6-speed drivetrain using a 1/8" chain. The low gears on the 12sp deore were borderline useless and I kept getting slippage when in the highest gears.

We had a breadth (3 courses in different humanities departments) and depth (a similar 3 course sequence to you) requirement. No regrets taking a bunch of philosophy courses, and only a minor regret taking Philosophy of Mathematics in my last semester because it was the hardest course I took.
