Also this reminds me of the sticker sheet I CANNOT bring myself to use (from @bouletcorp.bsky.social I think?) (this was a while ago) I love ALL of these cheeses yes even the ones that look a LITTLE BIT SHADY
two sheets of unused stickers featuring many, many kinds of cheese, personified into little guys with eyes, hands, and legs in most cases. they are very expressive.

has anyone else noticed that the classic sci fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus features a Torment Nexus? That's pretty problematic of the author

firestorm09890
the main character eventually recognizes the torment nexus is bad but by that point I had already stopped reading the book because I don't condone the torment nexus, the narrative really should've condemned it outright :/

some-sort-of-humanoid-lifeform
Really it's also problematic that you started reading it, at all. I mean, good on you for stopping when you realized but if you were *really* a good and decent person you would have read reviews first and known not to even buy it in the first place.

Having to develop 20 unique rooms in a few days feels like a bit of a challenge, but when Jay Dragon told me the Wanderhome picklists got built over one weekend (I might be OVERestimating), I felt confident I could do something for this that'd be enough for the game night.

I know this is not the biggest concern going these days, but it stresses me out that basically every artist/writer/critic is now expected to create their own tiny empire instead of getting paid by any existing entity to perform a job they've worked to get good at!!!!

I'd love to present this again if there are more PowerPoint parties I'm invited to! This is 10 minutes and still needs a bit of work, but might take over the slot currently covered by "MarioKart characters as breakfast cereals" I've done before.

But we can! And we should! And there's long traditions of playful art, game-adjacent performances, collaborative storytelling, and zinemaking in modern art. Showing up in those spaces and adding our rulebooks, session schedules, and painted miniatures not only continues that, but enlivens it.

It seems like very few people have charted this path before me, despite the Towering Mass of Art in TTRPGs (in terms of art, design, narratives, indie spunk, and philosophy). That's a double-edged sword, but it does make me look unique to organizers. I've been told "I didn't know we could do this"

Pearse Anderson @pearseanderson.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I've had to switch from discussions of "mechanics", "bleed", and "worker placement" into the art-world-language of "situated and pluriversal approaches to socio-ecological challenges," which takes getting used to. You have to sell yourself on 2 registers at once (or 3?) But practice makes perfect!

This event gave me a proven record to go to the local anarchist French-fry-snackbar to see if they want to run my anti-AI tarot game in July, and pitch a Lost & Found ghost game to a Maastricht exhibition opening. It also alerted the art world to me: I got a message about museums yesterday! Eeek!

Now I've been pitching game sessions as one-off workshops with Dutch art collectives, organizations, or anti-squats, and that's going well! I had my first art workshop, a "seasonal craft event" where I was able to transform my culinary TTRPG into a game about midsummer feasting rituals.

So far this has gotten me into an ART RESIDENCY as their first game designer (see short doc below). I lived in rural Finland for 6 weeks in a former sickhouse, gaming. That got me the confidence to do it again. That was weird, not from my medium, but the place. www.instagram.com/p/DRra6o9jXs6/

I talk about mirror neurons, community-building, wisdom of the crowds, and agency as art (thank you @add-hawk.bsky.social for that bit) to argue for the importance and power of TTRPGs, then list how I need the art world: - for collaboration - for hosting play - for multimedia work - for community

Pearse Anderson @pearseanderson.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
For this argument, I usually need to start by explaining what a RPG is, why mine don't exist on a computer but in the heads of players, and how expansive the medium is compared to the hamburger-meat of Hasbro. Then, I place TTRPGs as a combination of performance art/fiction/design/sport/drama
110
Pearse Anderson @pearseanderson.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
One of my sidequests in the last year has been to argue for indie TTRPG's inclusion in the art world, partially so that I can apply for arts funding, display work in artistic spaces, and potentially make space in a new(er) niche. It's been..interesting! Needs more practice. But the idea is solid.

I frequently describe ttrpg theory as people extrapolating the Wright Brothers' plane into space travel and I won't stop. We don't have a collective theory of what a roleplaying game is but we're very confident we know exactly how many entries in a roll table is ideal.
