In America, one health care company can own: Your doctor Your pharmacy Your insurance AND the middleman between your pharmacy and insurance. That means more profits for giant companies and higher costs for you. That's not right — and I have a bill to stop it.

This x1000. We defeat the fascist white supremacist dictatorship first. We debate the particulars after. The latter part will necessarily be messy, but it's completely irrelevant if we don't first defeat the fascism.

Paul Evans (British, b.1950) Summer Haze
The painting "Summer Haze" by Paul Evans depicts an old stone cottage with a greenish roof amidst a vast field of wildflowers. The foreground is filled with dense vegetation in shades of green, yellow, and white, with splashes of red. In the background, the landscape stretches out in horizontal bands of green and blue beneath a soft sky in shades of pale yellow and peach.

you see the difference between Iran and America is that in one country ultimate power lies with a cabal of robed theocrats that pays only lip service to democracy, whereas the other is in the Middle East.

The thing you need to understand is that there are 2 (TWO) different method for amending the constitution 1) The process laid out in the constititon itself (conventions, or 2/3's of both houses followed by 3/4 of states ratifying) OR 2) find five votes on the Supreme Court.

Keeping Trump's Kennedy Center fiasco/humiliation front & center is important for historical, institutional memory. 'Moving on', gives Trump et al. the power to re-write history. We have already seen with our own eyes how Jan6th has been transformed into a 'protest of patriots' celebrated by MAGA.

This, from Pelley's interview today, is such a good articulation of a problem I've had with so many of these MAGA people. The insulting hubris to take a job with no qualifications or experience. It sticks in my craw.
This is like somebody
walking up to me and saying,
"There's a 747, there are 400 people on it, we need you to fly it to Paris." I'm going to decline because I don't have a clue. And it would have been so much better if Bari Weiss had been offered this job and said, "Oh, that's not for me, I don't know how to do that."

President of MIT not mincing words today in @statnews.com www.statnews.com/2026/05/27/s...
So let me say it as clearly as I can: Without basic scientific research, supported by the kind of farsighted public investment that allows large-scale, undirected, curiosity-driven inquiry, the scientific pipeline will run dry.
In daily life, people may not feel the effects right away, or even in 10 years. But we will feel it. And when someone we love needs therapies that could have emerged but didn't or when other countries now
investing in science can launch new science-based industries or run their societies on vast resources of fusion energy or reap the benefits of quantum computing power or advanced medical breakthroughs, America will wish it sustained its leadership in scientific research here and now.
Sally Kornbluth is the president of MIT.

There likely is nothing to be done at the moment to prepare for these possibilities (the only body of writing on the subject available in an emergency is science fiction), because no one of consequence is going to take this rubbish seriously unless it happens. At that point, our policy will be determined in the traditional manner of grand panic.

personally I think it's a very big deal that the Canada bureau chief for the @nytimes.com — certainly one of the highest-paid journalists in the country — asked an unspecified "AI tool" what Poilievre said & published its AI-hallucinated quotes in her reporting.
Editors’ Note: May 1, 2026
This article was updated after The Times learned that a remark attributed to Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative leader, was in fact an A.I.-generated summary of his views about Canadian politics that A.I. rendered as a quotation. The reporter should have checked the accuracy of what the A.I. tool returned. The article now accurately quotes from a speech delivered by Mr. Poilievre in April. He said, “My personal opinion is that when a member of Parliament goes back on the word they made to their constituents and switches parties, constituents should be able to petition to throw them out and have a byelection. That would put the people back in charge of our democracy rather than having dirty backroom Liberal deals by Mark Carney determine our destiny.” He did not refer to politicians who changed allegiances as turncoats in that speech.
