Avery Brooks and Colm Meaney on the set of "Emissary", STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE (1993)
Avery Brooks and Colm Meaney on the Promenade set during filming of "Emissary".

Moving from a recurring role in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION to a regular job on DEEP SPACE NINE, Meaney was initially concerned he would lose the freedom to pursue roles in film. The actor credited Executive Producer Rick Berman with assuring him O'Brien could be written out of some episodes if a role came up that Meaney wanted to pursue: "Well I was very lucky to have a great exec producer in Rick Berman. In fact one of my worries when they offered me DEEP SPACE was that I'd be going to a fulltime role after having just recurred in THE NEXT GENERATION. I could just fcuk off and do what I wanted, but I was a series regular on DS9. Rick sat me down one day and said, 'I promise you, I'll always let you out to do a feature you really want to do.' And over the course of the seven years he did. There were a couple of things he said no to, but they were things I wasn't particularly desperate to do anyway. The important ones I did get to do. They'd write me out of two or three episodes, or have me shoot the last day of one episode and the first day of the next episode. I could do a couple of days in LA and get back to wherever I was shooting movies."

thought this was a really strong close to a very bad season. made me nostalgic for classic Strange New Worlds lol. I liked the retro aesthetic and really appreciated how the makeup and SFX departments went all out to make the future Enterprise crew so diverse
the Enterprise crew one year on.

I have no idea how things could change so rapidly (or how it gets so sixties in just a year) and I have no faith in this show to make a graceful segue way into a more TOS style retro feel. but I dug the novel time travel story and focus on Uhura in a way that actually advances her character.
6 episodes left and we can put this dog down.

I missed this because I was on vacation, but filming for the final season of For All Mankind wrapped up last month. The sixth season is currently in post-production, with a release scheduled for 2027. It's the last space sci-fi show already in production when I started this account eight years ago.

I know this is going to sound like a petty quibble, but I really wish they hadn't made Benny Russell the author of 'The Kingdom of Elysian'. Not that a SF author couldn't have written a children's fantasy tale, but reducing one of Star Trek's most important episodes to a reference is tacky, IMO.

even scraping through PIC s2 as it devolved into filler, I've never had to turn off an episode of Star Trek (multiple episodes in this case) out of boredom or frustration like I have with this season of SNW. I say this with love but this franchise can't rest soon enough

Except in response to the reception S3 received, they stated the opposite and they were filming the final seasons at the time. Production can’t keep telling people the show is going to be more conventional, then get defensive when it turns out to be a lie and people get frustrated with the show.

Stewart said the discomfort of the Borg costume and makeup was an experience that helped inform Picard's state of mind: "The best part about Locutus was that I have something to reference, the drama Picard had to endure, the makeup process for me, which was extremely unpleasant and painful and unsettling. No experience is wasted."

"Orders of Magnitude" continues SNW's mishandling of its own characters, but Joe Morton's badmiral was incredibly fun to watch. my fave episode since "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail", which shocked me since they're both Kirk episodes and I hate the casting and don't think he should even be in this show
Joe Morton maybe giving us Star Trek's definitive bad Admiral alongside Paul Wesley as Kirk. I truly hate that this show crams Kirk into episodes whenever it can, sidelining the regular cast because he just keeps popping by like the annoying nextdoor neighbor. Wesley isnt channeling Shatner which is great but he's inexpli giving Kirk a distinctly Darren from Bewitched vibe which grates me.

Sam Kirk is the superior Kirk and should be the focus here, not this pencil neck. ok sorry, personal attack but I've also heard Wesley is a dick irl so whatever.

Anyway, best episode in a long time if you can accept (spoilers) the regular Enterprise crew really giving no resistance to clearly crazy badmiral antics until the very end. Also, "I drugged him to get a confession" is lazy and makes everyone look bad. lol SNW
