Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

Let me tell you a story about how top-end menswear retail transformed over the last hundred years. 🧵
Fiorinamarietta on Threads writes: "The death of department stores as an EXPERIENCE needs to be studied. You used to be able to buy a dress, have lunch, get your hair done, smell every perfume in existence and leave carrying beautifully wrapped boxes. Shopping used to be an event."

[SCENE: The court of Henry VIII. The King sits on his throne. An ADVISOR approaches him.]

ADVISOR: Your majesty, the kingdom is bankrupt!

HENRY VIII: Damn this costly war...

ADVISOR: Not the war, sir. Ir’s your jester subscriptions.

HENRY VIII: But they’re only 7 groats 95 a month!

ADVISOR: They really add up, your highness

ADVISOR: The palace doth o’erflow with well-reviewed jesters you’ve never even watched

[Show lots of jesters sitting round, bored]

HENRY VIII: Well there’s just so many ‘unmissable jesters’ these days...

HENRY VIII: I always think, I must watch that new jester everyone’s talking about... but then I just end up watching repeats of Johnny Arse

[Show a clearly lowbrow jester, baring his buttocks and shouting “JOHNNY ARRRSE!”]

ADVISOR: We even found an unopened jester-by-post from 1509!
[Show a skeleton in a box with ‘LoveJester’, like the LoveFilm logo, on the side]

ADVISOR: So - let’s cancel some subscriptions:

ADVISOR: NowJester?

HENRY VIII: I’m not missing Game of Jesters

I've bee thinking about this for over a decade
There’s a grim parallel between America’s food diet and its media diet. We increasingly choose what is cheap, fast, addictive, and engineered to keep us consuming over what is nourishing. Fast food replaced meals; outrage replaced information. Both deliver an immediate dopamine hit while leaving us less healthy, less satisfied, and wanting more. And after decades of consuming junk, we shouldn’t be entirely surprised by the condition of the body—or the body politic.
