A ‘hero’ pilot, plumber and dentist among those who saved flydubai flight to Israel
Swift actions of attacked pilot Smit Machchhar allowed passengers and other off-duty pilots to assist in subduing co-pilot and allowing plane to land safely Smit Machchhar was lying on the floor of the flydubai flight deck, covered with blood, when he managed to click the release to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to gain entry, overpower his attacker and save 174 passengers on board. Moments earlier, Machchhar’s fellow pilot had stabbed him, in an apparent effort to crash the plane which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Machchhar, an Indian citizen from Mumbai, is being treated in a hospital in Saudi Arabia’s north-western city of Tabuk, where the plane landed safely. Continue reading...

I appreciate that we need the full details of the latest apparent attempt to murder as many Jews as possible using a plane but if it turns out airlines can’t ensure their pilots aren’t dangerous assassins it rather rubbishes me putting little pots of liquid in clear plastic bags before boarding.

This story has been in the news. In UK it is a legal requirement for medicines containing paracetamol (and aspirin) to be labelled as such if it’s not apparent in the medicine’s name. Should that appear close to the dosage which may be the only thing patients read? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Strictly Come Dancing: the launch show – live
The ballroom extravaganza is back – and for the first time ever, the hosts are generating more excitement than the contestants. How will the new presenting trio fare? Strictly is back, back, back! Almost as importantly, so is our sequin-spangled liveblog. Good evening all and welcome to the 24th series of Strictly Come Dancing. I’m Michael, your virtual dance partner from tonight until Christmas. I hope you’ll join me for another life-affirming autumn of glitz, glamour and giddy entertainment. It’s all change beneath the glitterball. After long-serving, much-loved presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman bowed out at Christmas (sob), a new hosting line-up was needed. The BBC surprised us all by replacing them with not one, not two, but three fresh faces: safe-pair-of-hands Emma Willis, wild card comedian Josh Widdicombe and professional dancer Johannes Radebe to provide hoofing expertise.
