It’s also probable 800 years of endemic plague has changed it, and us. There was an outbreak in Calcutta ~40 years ago; about a dozen people died, in a dense urban environment. So “The Sky is Falling” isn’t reasonable. COVID is still a bigger problem.

Yes, but… Pneumonic plague is basically fatal, if untreated but isn’t easily transmitted; and the contagion chain is easy to break. Bubonic plague is what did most of the killing; because rodents functioned (as they still do) as a reservoir. The western US is chock full of plague.

I visited my friend who had the ashes of four of her boxers on a bookshelf. I have three, possibly four, close relatives in cardboard in TJMAXX Pride shopping bag in the basement. I had Asterix in a really nice ceramic pot until moved, and I decided my cat would like to stay where he had been.
