Ponytail Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is in the area burned during some of the fires several years ago. A narrow forest stream winds through a dense, mossy woodland, framed by layers of deep green foliage. Dark, wet rocks break the surface of the clear water, creating small ripples and gentle movement as the stream flows from the background toward the foreground. The forest floor is carpeted with thick, bright green moss and low plants, giving the ground a soft, almost glowing texture. On both sides of the stream, tall trees rise with sturdy trunks and wide branches, many of them draped in moss. Their leaves range from rich summer green to hints of yellow, suggesting the very beginning of autumn. Sunlight filters softly through the canopy, creating dappled patches of light and shadow on the water, rocks, and moss.
