I've been friends with my bosses in the past and would not consider them bad people, there is still just a materially contentious nature to that dynamic that benefits from mediation/collective representation. If bosses really wanted to run business like a "family" they'd start a co-op

No matter how culturally beloved the figurehead/reputation of an institution may be I dont think there is a workplace out there that wouldn't benefit from unionization. You can put any cool creative individual in the role of Boss you like, the role inherently has incentives contrary to the workforce
