panel 2: "in the mid 2010s it was more like this." a tumblr post reads, "my parents assigned me the wrong gender at birth."
panel 3: "throughout the eras of discourse there was one throughline." a figure waves a big pride flag and states, "nobody made me trans - i was born this way."
panel 4: "so if i definitely AM transgender, but if i definitely WASN'T at birth, where do i fit in?"
panel 5: me prancing around in a tutu. "i was not a transgender child. i loved girly stuff. ballet, barbies, the whole 9 yards."
panel 6: "actually i didn't even question my gender until all my friends were doing it." a friend asks, "we're all jumping off this bridge, you in?" i reply "oh hell yeah!"
panel 7: "but i did start to actively ID as trans after a few decades of the crushing expectations of womanhood." the word "womanhood" is massive, crushing me.
panel 8: "masculinity was my escape. maybe i didn't have a male 'soul,' but i WANTED one." i'm laying on my bed, gazing sadly at r/ftm.

panel 9. "if we understand 'man' and 'woman' as social constructs, shifting among different places and time periods, then we must acknowledge transness is a construct as well." doodles of the same woman, dressed in clothes from around the world.
panel 10: "which is kinda scary! cuz if transness isn't inherent, then--" a strawman transphobe bursts in shouting "TRANS IS FAKE"
panel 11: transphobe grabs me by the shirt. "you admit it! gender is a social contagion! you're making the kids MORE TRANS!"
panel 12: "to which i can only respond" -- i shrug and smile -- "yeah! pretty cool right?"
panel 13: my fursona dressed as a girl and a boy, dancing with itself. "judith butlet famously described gender as performative. cis and trans alike, we act out gender to reinforce it."
panel 14: boy fursona vanishes. girl furzona is handed a paper with the trans symbol on it. "but you don't need to be handed the 'trans script' to try a new role."
panel 15: "after all--" my fursona wearing a beret in a folding chair. "you're in the director's chair!"
panel 16: me chillin'. "maybe if womanhood was defined differently, i'd still be a woman. but i CHOSE to transition. and i'm damn glad i did."
