#31DaysOfGraves #Entrance Tough pick today but I've gone for Kinclaven Kirkyard's lych gate. I sat there as it was a very hot day, but it turned out to be home to a family of swallows who didn't expect a visitor, so I didn't stay long after finding my relatives' graves.
A country church in Perthshire. It features a granite lych gate shaped a bit like a castle entrance with a pointed roof. In the background are the church itself, gravestones, and trees. And a very blue sky! An iron gate into the churchyard is to the right.

🪦 #31DaysOfGraves — Day 3: Glass Glass-covered immortelles on the grave of World War I Soldier, Private George Heiniger, at Toowong Cemetery in 1915. 📍 Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 🦘 - fotc.au 🔍 Details in Alt text...
George Heiniger's comrades funded the erection of a marble headpiece above his grave at the Toowong Cemetery which was engraved with a miniature saddle and crossed rifles. The grave was surrounded by a concrete kerbing. After paying for the tombstone the balance of the money raised was used to purchase two artificial wreaths which were placed on the grave.

Private George Heiniger of the Unallotted Light Horse died on 21 February 1915 at the Enoggera Military Training Camp in Brisbane at the age of 18. The night before his death he complained of a headache and giddiness. The next morning he was very ill and his comrades took him on a stretcher to the field hospital at the camp. Once there he lapsed into unconsciousness and died at 9.15 am that day.

A court of enquiry found that he had died of heat stroke, although his comrades stated that he had not been in the sun and had not engaged in violent exercise or work preceding his illness.

A grave featuring a black headstone with a yellowish inscription which reads:
Treasured Memories
of a Faithful Husband and Loving Father
Hubert Victor Woolley,
Accidentally Killed April 17.1945
Aged 46 Years.
A smiling face, A heart of gold.
“Until the day dawn.”
A small black urn bearing the word Dearest and containing (artificial?) flowers stands on white stones or gravel in front of the headstone.
