Street of the Week: McDonald Street This street started out as one of the many closes off the Hilltown. It was made into a proper street in 1876 when William McDonald built some new tenements on land that he owned, and connected the Hilltown to Dallfield Walk and Arthur Street.

The first day of the London Blitz on the 7th of September 1940 saw Dundee Wharf bombed at 6.24pm with explosive bombs. This was the London home of the DP&L Shipping Line. The wharf was totally destroyed. Dundee Wharf was rebuilt in the 1950s and was eventually closed in 1969.

Street of the Week: Cross Row This short street was probably named this as it was a way to cross between Small's Wynd and Park Wynd. Although not marked there is a short street between the two wynd's in Crawford's map of 1793.

Street of the Week: Benvie Road You would expect maybe that Benvie Road was a road that led to Benvie, but this is not so. The name was decided at a Commissioners meeting in 1870 but its possible that the street and the buildings on it weren't built for a couple of years.

In case you missed it, we featured on a recent episode of the BBC's Fake or Fortune (s14 ep2). There was even a brief cameo from our City Archivist Martin Allan! We won't spoil the ending but this is a really interesting story about a Dundee born artist.
