Day 3 of #31daysofgraves' theme is "glass". This unusual glass monument is in the Powązki Cemetery in #Warsaw, #Poland.
Detail of a grave marker consisting of a curved piece of glass with the deceased's name etched on it. The support, seen through the glass, consists of a series of thin horizontal slats which form the shape of a cross. There are lots of trees in leaf in the background.View of the whole monument from the side showing the slats mentioned in the previous picture being set on a curved stone base forming an arc with the glass fixed to the top of it. There are lots of other monuments in the background as well as many trees.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 2: Glass/Glas 📍Cemetery Holstenkamp in Hamburg Final rest as a leaf in the wind /Letzte Ruhe als Blatt im Wind. 🍂🍁
A colorful memorial installation is displayed outdoors in a lush garden. Curving metal wires hold translucent, leaf-shaped glass plaques in shades of green, yellow, orange, and red. Several plaques are inscribed with names and dates, creating a personal memorial tribute. In the background, there are trees, shrubs, flowers, and a vivid blue sky with scattered clouds. The scene is photographed with a shallow depth of field, keeping the glass leaves in focus while softly blurring the garden behind them.

🪦 #31DaysOfGraves — Day 3: Glass Glass-covered immortelles on the grave of World War I Soldier, Private George Heiniger, at Toowong Cemetery in 1915. 📍 Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 🦘 - fotc.au 🔍 Details in Alt text...
George Heiniger's comrades funded the erection of a marble headpiece above his grave at the Toowong Cemetery which was engraved with a miniature saddle and crossed rifles. The grave was surrounded by a concrete kerbing. After paying for the tombstone the balance of the money raised was used to purchase two artificial wreaths which were placed on the grave.

Private George Heiniger of the Unallotted Light Horse died on 21 February 1915 at the Enoggera Military Training Camp in Brisbane at the age of 18. The night before his death he complained of a headache and giddiness. The next morning he was very ill and his comrades took him on a stretcher to the field hospital at the camp. Once there he lapsed into unconsciousness and died at 9.15 am that day.

A court of enquiry found that he had died of heat stroke, although his comrades stated that he had not been in the sun and had not engaged in violent exercise or work preceding his illness.

Canon Thomas Jones (6‑3‑8/9)

Born in Preston, England, on 30th July, 1836 to David Jones and Mary Ann Giles, Thomas Jones was teaching in England when Bishop Edward Wyndham Tufnell persuaded him to take Holy Orders. He was one of the 'Band of Brothers' who accompanied Bishop Tufnell to Brisbane in 1860.

In 1861 he was the first Anglican priest ordained in Brisbane. He served in Rockhampton until the end of 1864 when he was appointed Vicar at the Wickham Terrace Episcopalian Church, the forerunner of All Saints' Church on 1 January 1865.

In 1881 he became Rector of Toowoomba and later Archdeacon of the Downs and Western District. In 1890, Bishop Webber recognised his long and devoted service to the Diocese by appointing him a Canon of St John's. He was connected with the Anglican Church Grammar School from its beginnings in 1912. Canon Thomas Jones died on 14 August 1918 two weeks after his retirement.
