Shovelling and thinking to myself, “ahhh, so much quieter with the snow”- we live in a very car centric area in Woodlawn. Immediately, a driver lays on his horn for a solid 30 seconds in a clearly residential area. My sick wife is sleeping to boot. Why are drivers the way they are?!?

Tim Houston came to an arts event a few years ago. He told us "I love art! I love artists! I tell my friends the best way to get rich is to buy houses where artists live!" He laughed. The room was silent. Angry. He looked around, his smile fading. So he said it a second time and walked out laughing.

When you really dig down into it the two (not monied interest) sides of this debate are: I don't understand my and/or the city's budget, and demand lower taxes. Vs. I do understand my and/or the city's budget and demand better services and understand I have to pay for it.

And, if we stop progress/reduce safety standards, this number will increase. More people are choosing biking as their transportation (despite attempts by the city to dissuade them) due to its affordability, benefits, and relative ease compared to car congestion.

I think this is a key point we need to keep repeating - our council is spending extraordinary amounts of time to constantly relitigate an expense that's less than 0.05% of the capital budget. That is not time well spent by any measure.

HRMs councils plan to improve congestion and decrease a tax raise includes: 1) no more bike lanes, or only painted bike lanes 2) reduced ferry schedule 3) increased transit fees 4) reduced service for clearing bus stops … am I missing any more brilliant ideas??

If you widen that highway you won’t reduce emissions or congestion. What you WILL do is spend a lot of public money to induce even more cars emitting even more GHGs and pollution in the same or worse congestion with people still demanding that you widen the highway. Period.

I desperately want to live in a city that is actively bettering itself – it's what drew me back to Halifax. However, we are quickly regressing under amateurish provincial leaders and their "vacuous and controllable" mayor. I don't think continued population growth is assured.

How to improve Halifax traffic, provincial government edition: 1) Incentivize more drivers to go through two ridiculous bottlenecks to cram more cars onto the Peninsula. 2) Gaze in astonishment when you make things WORSE. 3) Blame bike lanes because you're angry that cyclists keep passing you.

It’s a dark and cold time in so many ways. Grateful for a little meetup and ride with the #BikeHfx community, who brought everything from homemade cookies and hot chocolate to hot dogs! Thanks to all who made this happen ❤️
View of the benches next to an outdoor public skating rink with a low city building in the background. All kinds of bikes are parked around the benches, including one that has a sign on the back that says “bike good, mayor bad”. People dressed in winter clothing are standing around talking with each other.A person with a small portable bbq set up on a bench is using tongs to put a hot dog in a bun held out by another person. A small person in a snowsuit is barely visible behind, anxiously awaiting their turn for a hot dog.People in winter clothes and bike helmets are talking with each other outside Halifax’s Oval building. A cargo bike is beside them and beside that is one child in a snowsuit offering cookies to another child in a snowsuit. A block printed blue bike, with snowflake-looking spokes, is printed on a white card. The back of the card has hand written text that says “Feb 1, 2026 coldest day of the year ride. Ft.
