Hunt being treated as a serious commentator on economics shows that British political discourse is broken.

Number 1. Wait until you are obviously going to lose then fuck over your successors by doing a ludicrous unfunded cut, relying (correctly) on them to be too chickenshit to say "well obviously that is just stupid and a trap for us we are not going to fall for so we will reverse it"

We're going to see a lot more of this. Reform splashing huge amounts of crypto-billionaire cash outside of the regulated election period (where spending caps apply)

I couldn't see the connection between the discussion of high energy prices with the idea that we are obsessed with cheap goods.

Just the founder of ACT for America urging British voters to "to take your country back" As Matt Goodwin might say "can't you see what's happening here?".
Brigitte Gabriel

Why hand your country to a citizen of a failed Islamist state who fled Somalia's collapse...only to swear on the Quran in the Commons?

Britain once ruled the waves. Now it hands Parliament seats to refugees from places that can't govern themselves, all so the guilt-ridden Left can atone for Empire.

Somalia collapsed under clan warfare and radical Islam. The UK's answer? Import the same culture and put it in power.

Give your pence and then go take your country back.

Reminder that the EU had no compunction about banning Russia Today. If anything, Musk’s behaviour is more egregious - directly assisting a foreign enemy's military attack. And this is on top of his support for race riots, Nazis and CSAM! By any measure, a threat to national security.

EU watchdog says smart glasses must clearly show when recording
Smart glasses, which resemble ordinary glasses but can capture images and interact with AI assistants, must give 'clear warnings' when they are recording, the European Union's data regulator said Tuesday. The statement comes amid an outcry over privacy violations.

Pretty extraordinary for the Jewish Chronicle to run an op ed & news story about Nigel Farage warning of antisemitism in the Greens without mentioning that he is the only serving major party leader to have been criticised by Jewish groups for using tropes linked to antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Rishi Sunak swore on the Bhagavad Gita. Suella Braverman used the Dhammapada. Forty per cent of MPs in 2024 chose to affirm rather than swear an oath on a religious text. It all counts. It is all part of the British political tradition.

In Robert Harris’s Precipice he refers to Asquith taking a train from Macclesfield to Alderley Park, but there has never been a direct line between the two. At which point, someone is going to produce a timetable showing that was a service running between the two via Stockport 😬

More from the superb article by @rafaelbehr.bsky.social Some of us remember how Cameron was mocked in 2016 when he argued that leaving the EU would damage our security. This piece has aged like warm milk www.theguardian.com/politics/201...
Trump and Putin are two greedy despots who recognise no boundary between national interest and self-enrichment. They see law not as a restraint on government but as an instrument to be wielded by powerful leaders against perceived enemies. Their approach to domestic politics is gangsterish, based on networks of patronage and tribute. Their view of foreign affairs is imperial, based on the belief that strong states have natural title to territory in their immediate vicinity, and that big countries can trade in the fate of smaller ones like casino chips.
It is as obvious to Trump that Moscow has a seigneurial right over Ukraine as it is that he should be allowed to decide who governs Venezuela and who sells its oil.

You were saying? He's become very fond of ending posts with questions like this.
Matt Goodwin

A Falklands War veteran has said the dinghies used to smuggle illegal migrants across the Channel should be 'shot'.

He says, 'One machine-gun blast is all it would take... then they would get the message. I just want them to bugger off.'

What do you make of his comments?
