Because of the success of the fundraiser - and the support of so many on here - we were also able to contribute to some unmanned vehicles that were donated. Heard today that these UGV's have already been involved in 16 life-saving rescues from the frontline. Thank you to everyone who donated.

Diesel hitting 2 quid a litre, energy forecast to go up by 24% next year, red lights flashing all over the place and the tories are in 3rd place in the polls and are waltzing into their conference like it's all going so well for them? A party that hadn't lost their minds would be dumping Badenoch.

In retrospect the 2nd greatest was resigning his seat so that Labour could beat Polanski in a by-election. He was trying to hurt Burnham, but he's helped him.

Congratulations to Suella Braverman for her Question Time appearance - I didn't think it was possible for her to come across as any more deranged and stupid than usual, but she somehow managed it.

In a matter of days Ukraine has retaken land on the frontline that it took Russia a year and tens of thousands of lives to occupy. Putin is on the back foot and desperate. Ukrainian intelligence says he’s now removed restrictions on the air campaign so they can target schools and hospitals.

From Politico. That motion is absolute fucking poison and by failing to stand up to it, the Greens have allowed that poison to seep into the party.

I know it's only a local election, but this is a massive result for Labour. In May we'd have been nowhere near winning this. Encapsulates the Burnham strategy, Get Libs and Greens to vote tactically and hope right splits 3 ways. Also shows how much trouble Badenoch is in. Tories got 20% in '23.

Mildly surprised how many people think "yeah Burnham's speech went down well but did you not notice how he failed to solve the (checks notes) 20 year growth and fiscal problems he inherited" is a devastating and insightful critique.

Farage’s position is fascinating. Defending Brexit should be easy: here are all the benefits. Obviously, Farage can identify none, so we get a) it would be divisive (the brass neck is beyond anything) and b) you will have to pay this and do that etc. All we need is a conversation.

The problem is that the money guys fail to understand is that, for non-MCFC fans, it's not about the money (except ticket prices and multiple TV subs of course), and that they'll view any kind of leniency as a betrayal. That would be a big, big mistake, which would have a financial impact too.

Also loving all the contortions of when someone is independent - the Conservatives think an 18-year-old is enough of an adult to sign up to a lifetime of student debt they weren't properly informed about, but not for the state to assess them for benefits on their own terms. Totally makes sense

"The party has also said it would look closer at whether parents' earnings and savings should be factored into welfare payments for their children" So according to the Tories, it's wrong to means-test benefits for boomers... but totally fine to do so for their adult children children.

Agree. I don't think Burnham has a growth theory, I don't agree with him on many of the political positions and policy destinations he set out in the speech, but it was a night and day difference between basically anything a political leader has done and said since 2019.

We're here to generate wealth for them, work until 67 then die as quickly as possible after that .. hence no need for social care. The number of blokes who were colleagues of my dad who died within 2 years of retiring from the factory was very high. Us living longer screws the maths

Thatcher could make people feel wealthy by selling off council houses & privatising utilities. But young people can’t afford a house & there’s nothing to sell off, in fact, the utilities are crumbling through under-investment. The Right have nothing to bribe the electorate with, so now rely on hate

I really feel sorry for Brendan Rodgers, he'd have been the hero who bought the title back after 24 years and achieved legendary status.... without City's games we win that league by 5 points from Arsenal, imagine what a difference that makes, careers literally ruined because of those cheats

As an Arsenal fan I would have to say Klopp is the biggest loser of the Man City scandal. An extra 2 titles seems certain given the 90+ points total including a treble in 21-22, Klopp would now be spoken of the way Guardiola was as the dominant force over the last decade.

The figures are welcome news for Andy Burnham and John Healey ahead of the budget in four weeks time - and mean that Rachel Reeves handed over a slightly larger economy than previously recognised. The ONS showed the economy grew by 0.5% in Q2 this year, up from the the previous estimate of 0.4%.
