Mercedes Josephine Monserrat Rubio wouldn’t wear just any coat. She’s going to be a vedette, a star, any day now. I demand it has extra holes. One in the left pocket just large enough to wiggle my pinky in, but thanks to yesterday’s sewing, secure enough for my keys. The other is a charmer. Just today, it opened up an entirely new front and what a success it had, like an artillery barrage. My entire hand slides right through. If the generals had such an effective attack in Morocco, we’d be winning the Rif War. My hand wasn’t the only one to breach the line. Some time earlier, my gloves used the fancy pocket vent to escape into the slush, along with twenty duros—100 pesetas. What a coat!

Fun Fact: ALL less lethal deployment is supposed to be aimed BELOW THE KNEES. Some are specifically meant to be bounced off the ground in front of the target. This is a requirement when getting certified to use them.
