Over the last 3 years of war in Sudan, I've had so many crushing conversations with survivors & organizers. The one that haunts me most was with a child who was brutalized, she said "God is punishing us because we could not bury my father before fleeing, we left his body in the street".

Abolition is neither passive nor pacifist. We work to build alternatives to prisons, policing, and other carceral institutions (as we fight to dismantle them). We do not preach non-violence, we reject the state's monopoly on legitimized violence.

The fundamental abolitionist lesson that moral =/= legal is a helpful reminder for so many people right now. Much of the time doing things which are morally good puts you at odds with the law, while the courts and institutions of colonial states incentivize and reward all that is immoral.

Although news headlines say he was armed with a knife, if you read on you'll earn that Arman Abadi, an unarmed CIVILIAN took a knife off of him.
