So the LibDems are talking about a big cut in fuel duty. This would mark a big growth in subsidies to motorists which would benefit the wealthy the most. They drive the most and drive the least fuel efficient cars.

On the one hand it’s great that the media are going into overheated homes. On the other hand I think I can see at least two things in this screencap that are not going to be effective cooling. Why hasn’t the government issued clear advice on how to shade and cool your home?
A screen capture of an ITV news report in an overheated home. The subtitle says “3000 people die”, and in the screen capture there is a woman with a tower fan pointed at her from a hot door that is insulated with foil on the inside of the window only.

Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" I wonder when TfL is going to upgrade the Silvertown Cycle Shuttle and the (appalling, indirect) cycle routes that link to it to a quality that means they can go onto the Cycleways map?

Show another Cycleway crossing the peninsula that is not on the mayor’s graphic.

European summer temperature, June to August, over 10°W-40°E, 30-50°N, the region Stott et al. used for the 2003 heatwave, relative to 1961-1990. The black line shows ERA5 observations from 1950 to 2025, rising from about zero in the mid-twentieth century to 2.75°C in 2024. Grey shading is the 5-95% range of 34 CMIP6 models over the historical period, blue shading the same models under SSP2-4.5 to 2100, with the running median in white. Two dotted lines mark the 2003 summer at 2.06°C and the 2024 summer at 2.75°C, each dropping to the year the model median reaches that level: 2027 and 2045. Westminster Council Conservatives, of 'vertical drinking' fame, earlier this year proudly cancelled a cycle lane on Hamilton Terrace. Where on a Thursday afternoon last June a 13 year old boy was hit and seriously injured by the driver of a car. They have received no negative press for doing so.
Screenshot of a newsletter from Paul Swaddle Leader of the Conservative Group and Westminster Council which read:

We are wasting no time. One of our first acts has been to halt any more work on the C51 Cycleway scheme on Hamilton Terrace in St John's Wood. Over 1,000 residents backed the local campaign against it, raising serious concerns about safety, the loss of parking and electric charging points, and the enormous cost of ripping up the road. We listened then. We are acting now. This is what Real Action looks like from day one. We will always listen. Tell me what matters most to you below:
Screenshot of TfL road danger reduction dashboard summary of collision which reads:

On 12/06/2025 there was a moderately serious collision at 15:15 at On Hamilton Terrace, Near The Junction With Abercorn Place.. The collision took place on an unclassified road. The collision involved a pedal cycle and a car, resulting in 1 moderately seriously injured cyclist.
