The thing that concerns me about Burnham is nothing seems to have been put in place that will have much impact by the next election.

Personally I would not select organisations with almost no capacity left to do anything but arrange social care to make good on promises about building.

Unsolicited advice is free for a reason, but I'd go with a different approach to Burnham than that for Starmer who was a train wreck everyone hated. Burnham isn't that.

1945: Churchill did not vote in the Labour landslide election because he was not on the register. He was able to vote in the Westminster City Council election later that year.
MR. CHURCHILL VOTES

Mr. Churchill walked into Caxton

Hall shortly after 5 p.m. and recorded

his vote at the booths for the St.

Margaret's ward of Westminster. He

looked cheerful. He was unable to

vote in the General Election because

his name was not on the register. It

has since been restored.

1945: The thrifty British sell the contents of the German embassy in London. Sounds like a lovely auction room. 😬
Hitler Lovers
Buy Nazi Flags
London. Nov. 28—(AP)-Two Nazi flags, bought at auction at the former German embassy in London, were apparently on their way tonight to Kingdom house, headquarters of the Legion of Christian Reformers, a new organization which London newspapers said regards Hitler as "a divine instrument."
The flags were removed by a Mr
A. Wilson who said he intended to present them to the. Christian Re-formers, which received wide publicity in British papers yesterday in connec tion with the auction of a huge granite bust of Hitler.
The bust was bought by Capt R.
Gordon-Canning, former member of the British Union of Fascists, for $2000 after spirited bidding. Gordon-Canning, who was imprisoned for two years during the war under defense regulations, told reporters the bust might "go back to Germany in about 25 years time."

For all that it's been barely reported in the UK press, it's still hard to understate the importance of the stance @labourunionsuk.bsky.social has taken on trans and non-binary rights this week. Every single trade union affiliated to the party of government has stood up and said we will not comply.
Joint statement from National TULO

Solidarity with the trans and non-binary community

Labour's 11 affiliated trade unions stand in total solidarity with the trans and non-binary community.

Trans rights are human rights, and trans rights are workers' rights.

We in the trade union movement will do all we can to stand up for our trans members and all our trans siblings, to protect them from persecution, harassment and attack.

The government must act now to protect all trans people, to make sure their rights are protected, expanded and upheld in our workplaces and communities.

Some of the specifics of the 1960s road proposals. They wanted to build a flyover at Gants Hill. I will now look a little more kindly on this location which is simultaneously a major road junction and town centre. Rejected on amenity grounds, even in the car-brained 1960s.
